tyne cot cemetery

this is the largest commonwealth war grave in Europe and lies just down the road from the legendary  paschendaele. the site is on the place where five pillboxes were stormed, and there is an Australian memorial over the biggest pillbox in the center of the cemetery. when you visit this place you can see the futility of thousands of men trying to run up a hill to get to these strongly defended pillboxes. even with the thousands of artillery rounds that were fired at them they are still hardly damaged and in good condition. finally overcome by a sea of graves. very sad indeed
