On September 6, 1995, Cal Ripken reached baseball immortality when he broke Lou Gehrig's streak of 2130 consecutive games played. I was fortunate enough to witness this occasion first hand with my wife Susie.

It was fitting that exactly one year later, September 6, 1996, the only major league ballplayer that Cal specifically thanked when he broke Gehrig's record (he also thanked his Dad and his wife), Eddie Murray, became a baseball immortal too when he hit his 500th home run.
