WHY DID I DO IT?

by Sue Whitehorn

General Information:

This is just a silly little ditty that my demented mind thought up when discussing the fact of what happened to Janette's well-dressed, sensual appearance as a vampire to a drab little female when she became human.

The cast of Characters, Nick and Janette belong to James Parriott and Tri-star, not to me unfortunately.

I give permission to archive to IB site, if you dare to put something this silly there.

Again, Enjoy

House on the outskirts of Toronto:
The interior is beginning to be engulfed in flames.

After getting Patrick and his aunt out of the house Nick ran back to Janette who lay dying on the floor near the couch. He knelt down and lifted up her head saying, "Janette, I can bring you back across!"

Janette moaning and gasping for breath said, "No, Nicola, No, Please! OOh! and then she passed out. Nick could tell from her heartbeat that she was near death. He looked down at her. What should he do? Should he honor her wishes and let her die? Should he go against her wishes and let her live again as a vampire? Should he stop asking questions and do something before it is too late? Should he first make sure that she is worth it? Should he tell Natalie that he forgot to drink the last protein shake he gave her? Should he have his loft fumigated again for mice? <Damn! Nick! Concentrate!> He looked at Janette and then he spoke outloud,

"I must bring you across, Janette. If for no other reason than to make sure that you change your appearance. You look like Nat does on her bad days. Look at your clothes, your hair, even your teeth are dirty!" And with that he looked up and roared and then his fangs came down fiercely into Janette's neck. He drank long and hard, and then he could hear her heart beating fainter and fainter. He knew he must stop. He slipped his fangs out of her neck and licked up the stray droplets that had leaked out, sealing the wound. Then he bit his own wrist and thought, <Damn that hurts! There must be an easier way to make one of our kind, than to bite our wrists all the time!>

And Nick let the blood from the wounds on his wrist flow around Janette's open mouth. Suddenly she licked her lips and looked up through semi-opened eyes and said, "Ummm, that tastes good. More, please! More!" And she grabbed Nick's wrist and began to drink. The blood flowing from Nick was somewhat painful and after a few minutes he pulled his wrist from Janette's mouth. "That's enough, you glutton! You never did know when to stop, did you?"

Janette sighed and began to fall asleep. Nick looked at her and then around at the flames, that were getting closer. <Typical. Have sex with someone and what do they do? Fall Asleep! And now I have to pick you up and carry you out of here! Women! They are so demanding!>

And Nick slowly picked up Janette and soon he and his new "daughter" were airborne. Nick flew swiftly back to his loft. Crashing through the skyline window, (which he had to do as Janette was beginning to wake up and was becoming a burden for him to carry), he brought her to his bedroom and laid her on his bed. Janette began to wake up fully and then realized what had happened. She looked at Nick with gold flashing eyes and said in anger, "You cruel, unthinking, male! Why did you bring me across?"

Nick looked at Janette with amazement at her anger and became angry himself. His eyes too had begun to glow, and he said, "Because I am a vampire! I must have blood!"

Janette looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "Really? How did you figure that one out?" And then regaining her composure she said, "Damn, Nicola, why did you bring me across?"

Nick looked at Janette for a few minutes fuming and then said. "Because I could no longer stand you as a human."

Janette was surprised to hear him say this. "But you always liked Natalie? What does she have that I didn't?"

"Janette, it is because you reminded me of Nat that I brought you across. You were starting to look just like her and talk just like her and I couldn't stand it!" Nick replied. When Janette looked at him with a puzzled look, he reached on top of his dresser for a mirror thinking, <Ha! And people thought we couldn't be seen in mirrors!> "Well just look at you!" he said, placing the mirror in Janette's hand. "Your hair is a mess, your clothes look like you got them from a bag lady on the street, and your French accent that I adored so much, sounds now like some sweet little thing from the hillybilly capitol of the world!" Nick shouted at her. "I could take you appearance and manner no longer!"

Janette took a long hard look and saw that Nick might be right. She had sort of let herself go. But he certainly had no right to bring her back across against her wishes. <You will pay for this, my Nicola. I promise you, you will pay!>

After a few minutes, Janette gave the mirror back to Nick and said, "Very well, mon cher. I accept that you brought me back because you couldn't stand the way I look. But I now tell you, I do not need your help to learn the ways of the vampire. I am fully capable of going on, now without you. And as soon as I have my strength, I will leave. Convenu?"

Nick looked at his love and then realized that perhaps he had made a mistake in bringing her back across. Now all she will do is nag at him. Maybe it would be best if she did leave. For awhile at least. With a shrug of his shoulders, he said, "Convenu, Janette!"

Three weeks later, Nicholas came home from a very slow evening. He and Tracy had spent most of the night talking about Rock and Roll music, of all things! Sometimes, she could be a lot of fun and he did enjoy her company. He had left work early so that he could get some well deserved rest. He had been up for the last 4 days solid. And since tonight had been so slow, Capt. Reese had let him leave early.

Pulling his caddy into the garage of his warehouse, Nick shut off the engine and taking his keys got out and shut the door. He walked over to the elevator and keyed in the code. The door opened and he began the ride to his loft. As the elevator neared the door, he began to get an uneasy feeling. Like some storm was brewing somewhere. The elevator came to the door entrance and Nick opened the door. Then he knew; HE WAS IN BIG TROUBLE!

All around the outside walls of his living room area, (except in front of the fireplace), were clothes racks, filled with clothes. There were gowns, dresses, slacks, coats, capes, you name it, they were there. And that wasn't all. Towards the back of the living area, where Nick had his easel, paints, and table, there were boxes and crates sitting on the floor and stacked up almost to the second floor. <oh, no! This can't be!>

"Bonsoir, Nicola!" a soft, sultry voice beckoned from the top of the stairs. Nick glanced up and saw the figure standing there as though she was waiting for the messanger to announce her presence to the patrons of the ball, before she decended the stairs. She was dressed in a beautiful green shimmering chiffon gown with silver trim. It had thin, silver straps on the shoulders and fell in a V line, along the cleavage of her breasts. The waist was tight fitted as was the bodice and the skirt was a mass of green chiffon material that folded and pleated its way to the floor. Her hair was pulled back in a kind of french braid, and her bangs were full and very curly in the front. She wore a diamond tiara on her head that had an emerald stone in the center, and her earrings were long and dangled made of diamonds and emeralds. She also had a silver choker necklace around her neck and a very small, dainty diamond bracelet graced her right wrist.

Nick stood at the bottom of the stairs with his mouth open and his eyes almost bulging. (As, I might add was another area of his anatomy!) "Janette." he whispered, so softly that if Janette had not been a vampire she probably would not have heard him.

She slowly, seductively descended the stairs and walked over to the very nervous and very aroused vampire! "Mon cher! Mon maitre! What is wrong, do I not please you?" Janette said again in that sultry voice.

Nick was just about to lose it and he tried to sound as calm as he could. "Janette, you are. . . . .breathtaking!" And he began to pant slightly out of breath.

Janette placed her hand on his cheek and said coyly, "I hope you do not mind, mon cher. But I thought that I should stay with you, as you are my master now. And I do need to be taught so much from you as I am still a new little fledgling." With these last few words, she moved seductively next to Nick, rubbing up against him and purring, running her soft sensous lips on his now very sensitive neck. Nick could take no more. He backed away from Janette, already in vampire mode and with eyes flashing said, "Why are you doing this?"

"Pardon? Doing what, mon cher?" Janette said in a teasing voice.

"You know what I am talking about! Look at my home! You have turned it into Macy's, or better yet, Harrods of London!" Nick said as he walked around, brushing against the clothes racks, and examining the clothes. "Where did you get all of these, anyway?"

"Please, Nicola! I have been around for almost 1000 years. Do you not think that I have accumulated a few clothes?" And then walking slowly towards him she said, "And I thought that you wanted me to change my attire? Didn't you say that you did not like the way I dressed, before?"

Nick now knew that he had been had. At first he was ready to pounce on this aggravating, but beautiful woman. But then he suddenly broke into a wide grin. "Yes, that is what I said, mon cher. And believe me, I will never again say anything about the way that you dress, or the way you look."

Nick walked slowly back to Janette and took her in his arms. "But you do look so captivating, and sexy, my beautiful Janette!" He kissed her on the lips and then said, "Can you blame me for getting used to you like this?"

Janette smiled and then said, "I understand, Nicola! And I also understand why you brought me back across. I forgive you for what you did. As a matter-of-fact, I am glad you did." Janette kissed Nick on the cheek and then moved away from him. She walked over to one of the coatracks and moving through the clothes found an article of clothing and brought it out. She turned around and walked back toward Nicholas and said, "But from now on, mon cher. You will dress appropriately, if you wish to be with me!" And Janette handed Nick a black velvet tuxedo! "Convenu, Nicola?"

Nick groaned, and then took the tux from Janette. <Oh, well, if I can be with Janette and she looks like this, I guess looking like a penguin is worth it!> He smiled at his love and said, "Convenu, mon cher!"

Finis
"I won't think about it now! After all, tomorrow is another day!"
