Why Is This Page Mirrored???

Why Do You Have a British Page?

This seems to be the number one fact people comment on. Well, sorry to confuse all you midnight net-surfers, but I do NOT live in England, I don't have family in England, I've never even BEEN to England. In fact, I don't even like that much British Comedy. I'm probably one of the few English-speaking people in the world who dosn't like "Monty Python's Flying Circus".

The reason why I ended up with a British homepage is quite simple. The incredibly generous Jonathan Day gave me a free "account" on the system he administrates. And, free in another country beat paying for a site here in America.

So, Whatcha Need Another Site For???

I was just innocently minding my business one day, when my friend Jacob Rosenberg sent me email suggesting I mirror my page on his computer (conveniently located in his dorm room at Columbia University in Manhattan, New York). My first reaction was to go "Why the heck would I want to mirror my page"???

But then, I realized how incredibly cool this would be. After all, if a giant Gila Monster were to wander into the Chem Department at the University of Manchester, and swallow Jonathan's computer whole...at least I would have a site. And even if nothing were to happen to either computer, how many housewives do YOU know who are so tres chic that they have transcontinental web pages?

Geocities: Gwen x 3

Okay. I had pages on both sides of the Atlantic. I had people everywhere envying my keen judgement. Didn't I think two pages were enough? Yes, until I stumbled across Geocities. For me, the IDEA of Geocities was just so great, I had to support it. Sending a check would require clearing it with my husband (and why get HIM involved?). Instead, I decided to add my page there. And, the rest is history.

If You're Not in England - Where are You???

I actually live on Long Island, part of New York state. Just as Italy is often compared to a boot, Long Island is described as a fish, with the head in New York City, and the forked tail consisting of the internationally known "East End" (including the Hamptons). We're famous for our sea food (particularly bluefish and 'steamer' clams), ducklings (yes, we export ducks), and beaches. Long Island has a strong ethnic mix of people, including Polish, Irish, Italian, Hispanic, Jewish, African, and Portugese. Some occurances Long Island is INFAMOUS for: Amy Fisher (the teenaged girl who shot her older lover's (Joey Buttafuco) wife in the head), the "Amityville Horror" house (in - you guessed it - Amityville), and Sheryl Pierson (teenaged girl who hired a fellow classmate to kill her father - the band Aerosmith wrote a song about it called "Janie's Got A Gun"). I guess we have a bit of trouble with our teenaged girls.

Addendum

Page number two went out, not with a bang, but, with a whimper. Actually, it went out with a melted hard drive. Jacob's Linux drive died (after too many troubles to list here), and so he's no longer offering accounts on his school computer. But, I still have two, which is where I should be, anyway. Three was a bit gauche, don't you think?
