Welcome to the library of Palanthas!
Over the years, there have been many authors who contributed to the unique nature
of Krynn's evolution. From Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the forging duo, came an
idea that many writers wanted to write about... Quivalen Soth, i.e. Michael Williams
who filled the page with poetry and rhyme... Roger Moore, the infamous Rogar of Mooria...
Douglas Niles, author of (my favourite) Flint, the King ... Mary Kirchoff, author of
the more recent Defenders of Magic Trilogy ... The list is endless...
This is a list of the achievements of these outstanding writers.
(For you who own The History of the Dragonlance Saga, this is only meant to be a
online reference, not a replacement to the information in the History.)
The Chronicles trilogy
Dragons of Autumn Twilight
, this being the first ever dragonlance novel proper.
This is the story of the quest for a mystical staff of blue crystal and eight heroes'
fight to save the world from the clutches of Takhisis, Queen of Darkness. By Margaret
Weis and Tracy Hickman.
-
Dragons of Winter Night
, the second in the chronicles trilogy details how the
companions are seperated, search for the Dragon Orbs of old and hunt for the Dragonlance.
By Weis and Hickman.
Dragons of Spring Dawning
tells the terrible fight of the companions against the
forces of Takhisis that close in on them, their search for self-knowledge and their
final triumph in the city of Neraka. By Weis and Hickman.
The Legends Trilogy
-
Time of the Twins
, telling the return of the archmage Raistlin, the hero Caramon,
Crysania, cleric of Paladine and... yes, the irrepressible kender Tasslehoff Burrfoot
in the mists of time. They quest to save a soul... Tasslehoff's probably gonna stea- ahem
.. borrow it... By Weis and Hickman.
War of the Twins
finds Raistlin transformed into the greatest mage that lived...
Fistandantilus. Through the casting of a powerful spell, he brings the trio of himself,
Caramon and Crysania into the land of Krynn, a hundred years after the Cataclysm. Tasslehoff,
meanwhile, gets himself gated into the Abyss... Read it... By Weis and Hickman.
Test of the Twins
tells the story of the final (?) meeting of the twins, as Raistlin
sends himself into the Abyss with Crysania at his side. Caramon and Tasslehoff find theselves
in a far flung future and discover the knowledge to beat Raistlin. Returning to the present
day, they find Palanthas under attack by Lord Soth, defended by Tanis Half-Elven and the
Knights of Solamnia. By Weis and Hickman.
The Tales Trilogy
The Magic of Krynn
, an anthology of various authors, my favourite being, of course,
the Legacy, featuring the return... albeit temporarily... of Raistlin for the sake of his
nephew Palin. Close second comes... heh... Love and Ale, a story of Kender, love
potions and unsuspecting patrons of a certain inn... edited by Weis and Hickman.
Kender, Gully Dwarves and Gnomes
has a title begging for hilarity and,
of course, the (in)famous kender saying.. passed down through the generations...
"oops". Minotaurs, Kender and tinkering gnomes abound in this volume, the novella being
"Wanna bet?" featuring the three sons of Caramon Majere and the god Reorx. Edited by
Weis and Hickman.
Love and War
, the last in the Tales trilogy. This is, perhaps, the most
powerful of the trilogy, it's most appealing story to me being Raistlin's Daughter, with
Heart of Goldmoon coming a close second, detailing how Riverwind was started on his quest
for the blue crystal staff, and thus the initiating of the Chronicles. Edited by Weis
and Hickman.
Heroes
The Legend of Huma
, the tale of Huma, Dragon-knight, Light-bringer, first
lancer. This is the tale of the third Dragon War, where Takhisis fought to regain a
foothold in Krynn. Huma, aided by the silver dragon Gwynneth, the red mage Magius and
the valiant minotaur Kaz repelled her, resulting in the tragic sacrifice of Huma's life.
The tale of the pinnacle of the Solamnic Knighthood is told in wonderful detail and style
by Richard Knaak.
Stormblade
is a tale of Thorbardin, stronghold city of the Dwarves. A kingsword
is forged in the mines of Thorbardin by a humble smith. Whoever holds both a kingsword
and the hammer of Kharas will rule the clans of Thorbardin. Thus is the race started for
possession of the kingsword, evil and good alike, seeking to gain control of Thorbardin
for their own ends. By Nancy Varian Berberick.
Weasel's Luck
... this is a tale of a knight in a thief's clothes. Galen Pathwarden
is a member of a noble family of Solamnia, whose father harbours high hopes that Galen will
move onward into the ranks of the Solamnic Knighthood. Galen's hopes do not move in the
same circle's, however... Bayard Brightblade teaches him in the Code and the Measure until
Galen's natural traits emerge... by Michael Williams.
Preludes
Darkness and Light
is the first story of the Companions in the five years after
their seperation in search of a sign of the true gods. This chronicles the adventures of
Kitiara Uth Matar and Sturm Brightblade, as they... somehow... buy passage aboard a gnome
flying ship and arrive on the red moon Lunitari and discover a new race... don't ask me... it's a gnome tale,
for me that explains everything. By Paul Thompson and Tonya Carter.
Kendermore
is a tale of kender... prepare to be confused. Tasslehoff betrothed
to a female kender named Damaris, the famous uncle Trapspringer imprisoned in Kendermore,
and the Queen of Darkness intrudes on what would otherwise be a perfectly normal kender
tale... Welcome to Kendermore. By Mary Kirchoff... she's sick.. sick.......criminally insane...
Brothers Majere
is the tale of Caramon and Raistlin Majere, in the five year period
before the War of the Lance. This book chronicles the twin's attempts... with the 'valiant'
help of Earwig Lockpicker, a kender who accompanies the twins to the city of Mereklar.
While Takhisis plans to enter Krynn through the city on the Night of the Eye, Bast, the
Lord of the Cats informs the intrepid trio on the method with which to bar Takhisis entry
to Krynn. A fantastic story. By Kevin Stein.
Preludes II
Riverwind, the Plainsman
is the tale of Riverwind and his companions on a quest
for the magical blue crystal staff of Mishakal. All the way through, a terrible prophecy haunts
the company... One will go mad, one will die and one will find glory. By Paul Thompson and
Tonya Carter.
Flint, the King
is my personal favourite of the entire series so far... this
book tells the tale of how Flint Fireforge was drawn back to his hometown, Hillhome...
and subsequently kidnapped by a tribe of Gully Dwarves living in Thorbardin...
On learning of certain activities that his village unknowingly allow, Flint rallies his
'troops'... my favourite maneuvre being the 'Creeping Wedgie'... :) This is a great book.
By Mary Kirchoff and Douglas Niles.
Tanis, the Shadow Years
is the tale of Tanis' dark and shadowy journey into
his past. By Barbara and Scott Siegel.
Heroes II
Kaz,the Minotaur
tells the story of Kaz, valiant companion of Huma, and his
adventures after the Third Dragon war and the sacrifice of Huma, an informal sequel
to the Legend of Huma. By Richard Knaack.
The Gates of Thorbardin
is the tale of the quest for the Helm of Grallen, holding
the secret to the lost gate of Thorbardin and the age-old soul of a prince. Along the way
the intrepid adventurers, a dwarf, gnome, human and kender encounter mystical vales and
a sentient spell stuck in stasis. Don't ask me... I never understood dwarves...
Galen Beknighted
is the sequel to the story of Weasel's Luck, also starring the
reluctant hero Galen Pathwarden. In this installment, Galen sets out in search of his brother
Brithelm, who has mysteriously vanished. By Michael Williams.
Elven Nations
Firstborn
is the first in the trilogy of the elven nations, detaling the
death of the King, leaving his two sons, Kith-Kanan and Sithel, to fight over the future
of Silvanesti. By Paul Thompson and Tonya Carter.
The Kinslayer Wars
tells the tale of how Kith-Kanan and his followers are
forced into exile from their beloved homeland after Kith-Kanan's brother is murdered by
an assasin. By Paul Thompson and Tonya Carter.
The Qualinesti
is the concluding volume, telling the founding of the city of
Qualinesti and how the society of renegade elves copes with living apart from their race.
By Paul Thompson and Tonya Carter.
Meetings Sextet
Kindred Spirits
is the first of the Meetings Sextet, the tales of how the
Companions of the Lance met and banded together. When Flint Fireforge travels, at the
Speaker of the Sun's request, to the city of Qualinost he meets Tanis Half-Elven, a
tragic half-breed of man and elf. An unlikely friendship blossoms between the two, enabling
Tanis the help of the dwarf when he is accused of the murder of an elf. By Mark Anthony and
Ellen Porath.
Wanderlust
is the classic tale of how Tanis and Flint met the kender Tasslehoff
Burrfoot (whether it is to their benefit, or eternal regret hasn't been decided yet...).
They meet when Tasslehoff, wandering the Solace fairs, 'borrows' a copper bracelet
belonging to Flint Fireforge. As the bracelet holds the salvation of the Dargonesti, sea elves,
and an alliance with the Phaethons, men with wings of flame, an adventure unfolds...
By Steve Winter and Mary Kirchoff.
Dark Heart
is the story of Kitiara Uth Matar, her part in the upbringing
of her half brothers Caramon and Raistlin Majere and her quest for knowledge of her true
father Gregor Uth Matar. By Tina Daniell.
The Oath and the Measure
is the chronicle of Sturm Brightblade's quest
to learn the secret of his father's fate in misty Solamnia. Along the way, Sturm
gathers a number of curious comrades, a giant spider, a fair maiden, all helping
the young knight-to-be defeat a traitorous Knight of the Rose and defeat the
mysterious Lord Wilderness. By Michael Williams.
Steel and Stone
is the perilous tale of the meeting of Tanis Half-Elven
and Kitiara Uth Matar and their subsequent adventure in the treacherous Icereach
in the south of Ansalon. Carniverous trolls, giant owls, fair and dark magic users,
and stones of power make their tale a triumph of literature. By Ellen Porath.
The Companions
is the first triumphant adventure of the united Companion's
of the Lance, taking the group to the dangerous isle of Mithas, land of the minotaurs.
While Tasslehoff, Caramon and Sturm disappear on an innocent errand, Raistlin, Tanis
and Flint undertake the passage to Mithas and fight, not only to rescue their friends,
but also to defeat the evil plans of the Nightmaster. By Tina Daniell.
