The setting is in Colorado. The "Spirit of the Law" is a Sheriff or other law enforcement who was killed in the line of duty. And has come back from the dead to finish his last job.> Sheriff Dodger was the law for Durango (1,400) a small town in Colorado. He was good at his job and highly respected by the citizens of the town. It was a calm town without a major crime problem. This peaceful life came to a sad end for the town. A group of bandits rode into town. To steal and spread chaos just for the fun of it. Dodger was able to chase them out of town with the help of his deputies. Though in the process the crooks killed several citizens, stole over 500,000 credits worth of loot and fatally wounded John. The deputies wanted to give chase but they couldn't because the safety of the town was a higher priority. Especially with the death of Sheriff Dodger. Surprisingly John woke up two days later. Finding himself twenty miles north of town. Before he could get back into town. He came across a traveler. Who was heading north from Durango to Silvereno. He stopped to talk with the traveler and that's when he found out about his death and realized he had arouse from the dead. John knowing he needed to think about these strange events. Headed out into the desert to meditate. This was something he done since he was a kid. After much meditation he remembered the legend of the "Spirit of the Law". The legend was that a Sheriff (or other type of law enforcement) who died in the line of duty with justice unfinished. Would sometimes rise from the grave to finish there work. Though the legends were vague about what would happen when the job was done. Some say he would ride off in the sunset never to be seen again and some he just blows away in the wind like sand. When the players find him it's only been a month since he rose from the dead. He has spent most of that last month mediating and is know on the trail of the bandits who killed him. Name: John Dodger Race: Spirit of the Law (basically a ghost) was Human before he died. Alignment: Principled Age: Was 36 when he died Attributes: I.Q. 14 M.E. 22 M.A. 13 P.S. 15 P.P. 20 P.E. 13 P.B. 12 Spd. 25 Hit Points: N/A S.D.C.: N/A M.D.C.: 25 Horror Factor: None; 8 if they realize he is a ghost. P.P.E.: 8 Level: 5 level Sheriff at the time of death frozen at this level. Appearance: Sheriff Dodger has the look of someone. Who has spent most of his life outdoors. He stands 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed 170 pounds when he was alive. Because of his many years dealing with the scum of society he tends to usually have a very stern and serious expression on his face at most times. Disposition: When on duty (which he is most of the time) he is very serious about getting the job at hand down. Though when relaxing he can crack a joke with the best of them. He was also a very loving, devoted husband and father. He did not though go back to his family when he came back from the dead. Mainly he did not no how long it would be before he died again and did not wish to put his family through that again. Natural Abilities: When he came back his S.D.C. was converted to M.D.C. making him a minor supernatural creature. At this point he does not need to eat, breath or sleep to survive. Also since he is not a very powerful magical creature. Most mages and such won't be able to tell there's any thing odd about him. Though Dog Boys and Psi-Stalkers will still know. He doesn't have any other magic abilities beyond that he is alive when he should be dead. Line: If the players stop to talk to him. He will tell them about his search for some bandits. He will tell the players the bandits killed a Sheriff but he won't say he was the Sheriff they killed. Sinker: If the players decided to help. This will lead to adventures all over the west trying to find the bandits. Note the Sheriff can not find peace till the bandits are brought to justice. The first one to get them to the noose wins Hook: The players for one reason or another (bounty, revenge etc) decided to hunt down some bandits. Line: While chasing the bandits the players come across Sheriff Dodger. He will explain that he also after the bandits and why. Sinker: Do the players decided to work with Dodger or do they continue to work alone. If they work alone they will not have to share any bounties or spoils but the Sheriff will take to interference with his mission lightly. Do it for the old guy Hook: The players come across a dying man in the desert. Line: The dying man is Sheriff Dodger. He found the bandits but was badly injured in the fight (he maybe supernatural but he still can be killed). He will explain his mission to find the bandits and ask the players to bring his killers to justice. After he is done talking to the players he will die and turn to smoke that blows away in the wind. Sinker: Do the players decided to finish the job? There are several reasons why the would do it (bounty, justice, it's the right thing to do). If the GM wants he can drag the players all over the west trying to find these bandits. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ http://members.aol.com/ShawnM011/rifts.html - Last updated 1-23-1998 I've added more people to the Gamers Log.
