There are many different races and nations in the Warhammer World, from
the Wood Elves of Loren to the Underempire of the rat-like Skaven. Each
has its strengths and weaknesses, below are the mightiest of nations and
races. It is a wise general who knows his enemy.
 |
The Empire
The Empire is the largest and most powerful of the realms of Men. It
lies in the centre of the Old World, a land dominated by huge rivers and
deep, dark forests. These wild and tough places breed tough men, and it
is these men that make the armies of the Empire so successful. The backbone
of the army is its well disciplined infantry, supported by cannons and
powerful units of fully-armoured knights. The Empire's capital city Altdorf
is also the location of the reknown Colleges of Magic. |
 |
The High Elves
Elves are the oldest and most civilised race of the known world. The
birth place of their race, the island realm of Ulthuan, has a recorded
history dating back over 8,000 years. Elves are pale-skinned with fine
features. They are tall and proud, though slim of build they are quite
strong and agile. Elves are taught the arts of war from an early age and
swiftly master sword, bow and spear. The High Elves have developed sorcery
far beyond any other race. It was the High Elves that taught the art of
Magic to men. |
 |
The Wood Elves
The Wood Elves of Loren are remains of the High Elven settlements in
the Old World. When the last of the High Elven ships departed, a few were
unable or unwilling to return to Ulthuan. These Elves retreated into the
Forest of Loren, where they remain to this day. They have adapted to their
new way of life. Becoming expert archers and woodsmen, able to move swiftly
and silently through the greenwood. Loren is their domain, a green and
magical realm protected by Elven sorcery and soldiery. |

The Dwarfs
For thousands of years the great Dwarf Empire has endured amongst the
Worlds Edge Mountains. Centuries of war and conquest have hardened the
Dwarfs and moulded them into the finest warriors anywhere. Countless battles
against the Orcs, Goblins and Skaven have embittered their hearts and sharpened
their thirst for revenge. |
 |
The Orcs and Goblins
Orcs are ferocious and relentless warriors, their constant attacks
threaten to plunge the entire continent into a dark age of endless warfare.
All Orcs live to wage war, this is what makes them so dangerous. This love
of combat is also their greatest weakness as it means they expend much
of their energy fighting each other. Goblins are smarter than Orcs but
nowhere near as warlike. They are cunning rather than strong, and rely
a great deal on the Orcs when it comes to the serious business of fighting. |
 |
The Skaven
In the distant past, rats infesting some decaying ruin are thought
to have fed upon a mighty source of magic power. This power was a substance
called warpstone - solidified fragments of raw sorcery. Under it's unwholesome
influence the scuttling vermin mutated, growing in size and intelligence
into the vile children of Chaos known as the Skaven. |
 |
The Dark Elves
During the Elven civil war, the Dark Elves were finally driven from
the High Elven homeland of Ulthuan. The Dark Elves settled in the bleak
land of Naggaroth, the Land of Chill. Here the Witch King, thousands of
years old, has plotted his revenge against the High Elves. |
 |
The Chaos Dwarfs
The Chaos Dwarfs are a vile black-hearted race, forever waging war
in their relentless search for victims to enslave. Shrouded by the smoke
of a thousand forges, the foul empire of the Chaos Dwarfs lies deep inside
the Dark Lands. Far below the bitter earth, the tortured slaves labour
in chains, endlessly seeking out precious metals and minerals for their
evil masters' plans. |
 |
The Undead
In the Old World it is all too easy for evil to hide. Many men fall
prey to temptation, and the more powerful they are the more terrible the
consequences. The secrets of life and death tempt many wizards in the dark
and evil study of necromantic sorcery. These individuals soon abandon human
society to conduct their foul magical experiments in solitude, raising
the dead, questioning long departed spirits, and creating their own undead
servants. |
 |
Chaos
From the desolate Northern Wastes the Chaos hordes march upon the world.
Champions of the Dark Gods lead their warriors against the realms of men.
Mighty Sorcerers weave terrifying spells of destruction. Horned Beastmen
bray and bellow in anticipation of the slaughter that is to come. Behind
them, riding upon a wave of devastation, come the Daemons of Chaos themselves,
foul and unholy creatures that hate mankind and seek to enslave all living
things. |
