Chun-Li's Strategy
Advantages
You've gotta be either stupid or gutsy to jump in on
Chun Li. She has a variety of moves to counter jumping
opponents. Most important is her launcher, which will
easily set you up for either her infinite or an Air
Demon.
Speaking of the Sichisei Senkuu Kyaku, it's gotta be
the most powerful comboable move in the game. If it
connects in an air combo, she'll do at least 50% damage
on any opponent. Totally unfair in my opinion.
Chun Li still has her insane throw range. Match that
with her footspeed, axe kick and variable forms of
attack and you've got a character that is impossible to
turtle against.
She's one of the best chippers in this game. I still
haven't seen a move that can match her Kikosho in terms
of block damage. Her Senretsu Kyaku is also a great
chipper as long as you ram on the buttons. In a
desperate fight, she'll usually win.
Her triple jump and ability to jump off walls give
Chun Li the ability to stay up in the air for a very
very long time. Both moves are useful for playing mind
games or avoiding ground attacks.
Her Stomp Kick is a great jump in attack. It'll
chain into her J.Roundhouse very easily. Most opponents
get confused by this tactic and begin blocking low right
after the Stomp Kick. The Roundhouse will catch them and
then set em up for a ground combo.
Chun Li is one of the few characters with a taunt
that will do damage.
Disadvantages
Chun Li must either be on offense or she must make
her opponents come to her. Even though she has a
fireball, she simply cannot play a decent game of keep
away. This also leaves her vulnerable to keep away
characters that like to chip.
Chun Li has very low attack power. Her strength lies
in using her speed to pull off combos and supers. If you
don't know how to combo, then she won't be very useful
offensively.
Other than that, Chun Li is a character with very
few weaknesses to exploit. Very dangerous.
Offense
Unless you know how to use the air dash or do the
Stomp Kick to Roundhouse jump in, then it's best to use
dash combos with Chun Li. Her normal jump in attacks
don't help very much in terms of offense because they're
all easy to defend. However, if you master her effective
jump ins, use them to your heart's desire. They're
really hard to defend.
I hate to say this, but when using Chun Li, you can
do a lot of throwing. Her throw range is insane and is
only rivalled by Wolverine's. In the air or in the
ground, she'll usually be able to catch any opponent
and smash em into the ground.
If you really need to finish off a turtling opponent
, then Chun Li is the person you need. She has very many
anti turtle moves. The aforementioned throw and her axe
kick are very useful against crouching turtles. Her
Kikosho, Senretsu Kyaku and Lightning Legs are great for
chipping anyone to death.
Defense
Defense is really where Chun Li shines. She can stop
any advancing opponent from attacking her with he many
anti air attacks and fast sweeps. If they jump, hit em
with a launcher and follow up with the Air Demon. If
they're the dashing kind, Chun Li's C.Forward kicks will
often tag them before they have a chance to atatck.
If Chun Li is low on life and an opponent is just
waiting on the ground to chip her to death, she can use
her triple jumps to get to safety. This is especially
useful against beam supers like Shinkuu Hadoken and
Proton Cannon. Just jump, air dash behind them and do
as you please.
Don't count out her mini-kikosho. It's useful as a
surprise counter attack for both jump in and dashing
combos. It won't set anything up, but it'll make them
think twice about attacking her.
Her air priority is quite good because of her
Roundhouse attack. She can even follow it up with the
lightning legs for some good damage. If you see an
opponent jumping in and you're sick of launching, just
jump up and meet em in the air.
Onslaught
First Form - Against Onslaught's first form, Chun Li
can just keep on jumping over him all day. Her triple
jump is great for getting behind the big guy, allowing
her to combo him. Don't use the lightning legs on the
ground because of it's new recovery delay. Just stick
to a simple C.Jab, C.Strong, C.Fierce combo to peck him
to death. If you wanna finish him off quickly, use a
Kikosho. He won't be able to penetrate the attack and
he'll get hurt a lot. It's usually better to save the
super meter for the second form though. I'm told that
her launcher will neutralize the hyper gravs.
Second Form - Chun Li really kick Ultima Onslaught's
ass. After the fight with the first form, she'll usually
have three levels of super to play with. Just use them
all by doing Kikosho's to his face. If he's not dead by
then, just keep jumping at his face with the Roundhouse.
Once your meter is charged again, pull off a final
Kikosho. He should be dead by then. However, you shouldn't
forget to block and jump over his attacks.
Fighting Chun Li
If you can play keep away, then do it. Chun Li won't
be able to retaliate against it. Watch out for her
triple jump though. She can get close to your character
very fast. If possible try pulling off an anti air move
as she comes down. Chances are, you'll beat her out.
Figure out what kind of Chun li player your opponent
is. Most of the time, they won't know how to jump in
with her and they'll leave themselves open. Use any
anti air move that you want and you'll get her. However,
if they know how to do the Stomp or the Air Dash, then
it's best to stay blocking. Also, make sure that you
block high until she lands.
Unless you're Spiderman, Hulk or any other charcter
with a high priority air attack, don't jump in on Chun
Li. Her launcher will just beat you out and you'll die
after she hits you with an air demon. Basically, try not
to get launched. Her air combos hurt.
Never ever turtle against a good Chun Li player.
She will just knock you on your ass if you try to hide
in a corner and block. Try to beat her with your
projectile's or combos.
Do not push block the Senretsu Kyaku. If it's
blocked, she'll end up right in front of your character.
Use this opportunity to do some major damage with a
counter. Be on the lookout for Hazan Tenshou Kyaku's
because they leave her extremely vulnerable if blocked.
Finally, wait for her Kikosho to disperse if you manage
to dodge it. As soon as it starts collapsing, hit her
your fastest or most powerful super.
Don't try to throw her. She'll beat you. Aginst
throw happy Chun li players, learn how to tech hit
effectively to survive the fights. If you really can't
get the hang of tech hitting, it'd be advisable to stay
away from her....if you can.
She has very good priority in air fights, so make
sure to use your long range moves if she meets you up
there. Don't get fancy, just knock her down.
