Mega Man

Mega Man is in a fighting game!! That's a first. He is a pretty cool character and has some pretty good moves and super moves. For those of you who don't know who Mega man is, he is a little blue robot built by Dr. Light to battle the evil robots of Dr. Wily. His first debut was on the Ninetendo. Since then he has grown more and more famous. He has games on the Super Ninteno, Sega Saturn and Playstation. I hope he will have a game on the Nintendo 64 soon, though.

Mega Man's Moves

  • Mega Buster : Tap and Charge Firce Punch
  • The classic fireball. Tapping firece punch unleashes a nice sized fireball. It's pretty useful because you can stop incoming projectiles with it. The longer you hold Fierce Pucnh, the bigger and stronger the fireball gets. I have gotten a 6-hit fireball with him before and the can become even bigger. Also, the red firball will go through other projectile. You can charge the Mega Buster while doing anything - jumping, blocking, running, etc.

  • Tornado Hold : D, DF, F, P
  • This is a good anti air attack. It can also hit characters on the ground. The stronger the pucnh button you press, the further the tornado will appear. I think it goes up the 3-hits. You can also use this move to start air combos if you want to.

  • Mega Upper : F, D, DF, P
  • An imatation of Ryu, Ken and Akuma's Shoryuken. Not the best horizontal range but high vertical range. Use it on your opponent when they are jumping in on you. This move sends your opponent across the screen while they are on fire.

  • Item Change : D, DB, B, K
  • Mega Man can also use different weapons than just the tornado hold. Doing the item change with Short Kick gives you the Mega Ball. Doing an Item Change with an Foward Kick gives you the Tornado Hold. Doing an Item Change with an Roundhouse Kick gives you the Leaf Sheild. Once you do that, little Flip Top from the Mega Man series pops out and drops the item. Mega Man must then walk ovver and pick it up. Once done, do D, DF, F, P to use that item.

  • The Mega Ball is from Mega Man 8 on the Playstation and Sega Saturn. This ball disappears after it hits your opponent or bounces of the walls four times.

  • The Leaf Shield is from Mega Man 2 on the Mintendo. It can stay on for a long time but if the opponent hits it with a lot of fireballs, then it can disappear. It can also be fried and causes a 7-Hit combo if the opponent does not block.

  • Wall Slide : Jump against a wall and then press Foward
  • I think this move was first introduced in the Mega Man X series. In some ways this is very useful. You can stay on the wall and charge your Mega Buster and also dodge some low Super Combos.

  • Mega Slide : Down + Round House Kick
  • This move has been in every Mega Man game. Of course in the series, it was used only for dodging bullets and you would take damage if you hit a bad guy. This move can be used to slide under high projectiles and hit the opponent is they are close.

    Mega Man's Super Moves

  • Hyper Mega Man : D, DF, F, 2P
  • I don't know when this move came out. Kao Megura says that it is from Mega man X4 but I have never played the game so I have no clue. It's probalbly his best and strongest Super Move. Mega Man glows and transforms into a huge Mega Man that is as big as the sreen and dons some pretty cool armor. Then a swarm or missile and fireballs shoot out and a giant laser beam fires from his Mega Buster. When Mega Man grows, the sixe increase can also hit your opponent.

  • Rush Drill : D, DF, F, 2K
  • Mega Man's red dog, Rush, comes out and turns into a mini-tank with a huge drill in front. You can press forward and drill into your opponent. One cool part about this super is that you can turn around while doing your super.

  • Beat Plane : D, DB, B, 2K
  • Beat, a homing bird from Mega Man 5, comes and turns into a plane and either fires missiles if you tap Punch or drop missiles by tapping Kick. You can diredt Beat in any direction you want to by using you controller.

    Mega Man's Strategy

Megaman is a tough character to learn. Many will give up before they can get really good at him, but then a good Megaman player is incredibly dangerous. The key to it all is the Mega Buster. Without it, Megaman is just an average character but if one learns how to use it, he's possibly one of the best in the game.

    Advantages

  • Megaman is extremely small. Most attacks will go right over his head. Use this to your advantage and punish those people who can't figure out why a S.Strong by Hulk won't catch Megaman.

  • Do I need to say it again? Well ok....charge that Mega Buster! A charged Mega Buster is extremely dangerous because of the fact that it will OTG and it will keep juggling an opponent in the air, setting them up for an air combo.

  • Megaman's item changes give him a lot of versatility. Use them to change up your strategy and keep your opponent guessing.

  • Megaman has great supers. The Rush Drill is unstoppable and no move will penetrate it. Nothing will knock him out of it. The Hyper Megaman is slow but will act as it's own setup by knocking the opponent into the path of the beam. The Beat Plane does great chipping damage and can be confusing to block.

    Disadvantages

  • Megaman really has no attack power. It takes big combos involving his supers to win with this guy. His normal attacks just don't cut it.

  • Since he's such a little guy, Megaman is kind of slow. It takes him a few steps to get to his opponent and his short limbs make it necessary to do just that! You'll find that most of his dashing attacks will be blocked because he's so slow.

  • Most of Megaman's special moves leave him wide open. The Tornado Hold and Mega Upper have horrible recovery time. The Leaf Shield will offer some protection but the start up delay makes him vulnerable to dialers.

    Offense

Megaman can play either keep away or he can brawl. Whichever tactic you choose depends on you. It's better to brawl with him though because a non charged Mega Buster does no block damage at all.

  • Figure out which finger to use when charging your Mega Buster. I've found that my right ring finger is the easiest to hold down while still leaving the rest of my fingers free to hit the other buttons.

  • Use Megaman's sliding sweep often. It knocks down the opponent and gives him enough time to pull off an OTG Mega Buster, Tornado Hold or Rush Drill.

  • Learn how to set up air combos while holding down the Fierce button so that you can end it with a huge Mega Buster --> Beat Plane combo. Megaman's best setup is a simple D.S.Short, S.Roundhouse to air combo. If it's blocked, he should still be left safe from countering.

  • As soon as people see you charging that Mega Buster, they'll get really really careful. You're gonna have to do a lot of poking and prodding to get an OTG or air combo setup for a clear shot with it.

    Defense

  • Megaman has great anti air defense because of his assortment of moves. His launcher is the easiest to use and is best if you're charging the Mega Buster. Other useful moves are the Tornado Hold and the Mega Upper.

  • The Leaf Shield gives Megaman temporary super armor. He'll be able to absorb any single hit. Do you realize what this means? Turn on the leaf shield and just stand there. When your opponent jumps at you, let em attack. As soon as their attack connects, pull off a Hyper Megaman. It'll hit em while they're still in their attack pose and knock em into the beam of death that he shoots. Simple and effective defense.

  • Megaman has the ability to throw two Mega Busters in a row. This makes it extremely hard for his opponent to get near him. Sure, they can super jump but it's very hard to even pull that off when Megaman is doing this.

    Onslaught

  • First Form - Megaman is the best character to use against Onslaught's first form. He is so small that he can just run under most of Onslaughts attacks. If you must block, then make sure that you're charging the Mega Buster at the same time. Release it when you get an opening and then keep pelting Onslaught with other attacks while he's reeling.

  • Second Form - Megaman has a harder time beating the second form. Just be very careful and do a lot of blocking. As soon as you see him hovering over the ground, pull off a Hyper Megaman. It does incredible damage against him. Other than that, stick to using his J.Roundhouse and charged Mega Busters.

    Fighting Megaman

  • Watch out for Megaman when he's charging his Mega Buster. If you're hit by that sucker, then you're in for a big combo. Block a lot and remember that he's holding down a button, meaning that his fingers are occupied. Combos will be harder for him to do and he won't be able to do a super without losing the charge. Hit him whenever possible but don't try anything that will leave you vulnerable

  • A lot Megaman players like to play keep away with the Mega Buster and Tornado Hold. Mega Busters don't do any block damage if they're uncharged so don't worry about them. Just super jump and get close. If he does constant Tornado Holds, just find his timing and jump in when he's vulnerable.

  • Don't try to counter the Rush Drill. You can't it's impossible. He is completely invincible while inside his dog so just block and wait it out.

  • Block low. Megaman players like to use his slide and OTG combos a lot. If you do get hit by the slide, make it a reflex to roll away.

  • Megaman is extremely vulnerable after all of his supers. Hit him with your fastest super while he's recovering.

  • Watch out for him if he's got the leaf shield. Not only does he have one hit armor, he's got an eight hit projectile that will plow through any fireball thrown at him. It's best to wait until it runs out. Don't jump at him cause he'll cancel it into a Hyper Megaman.
