Venom's Strategy

Venom is a very unorthdox character. He reminds me a lot of Dhalsim and Shuma Gorath put together. He's not the best character for dialers, but keep away players and AC players will like him. Read on to find out how to get the most out of everyone's favorite symbiote powered villain/hero.

Advantages

  • Venom has great range and priority in many of his moves. His Fierce punches have very good horizontal range while his Roundhouse kicks are great for vertical offense/defense. They also do a lot of damage and come out quite quickly.

  • Venom has got a great assortment of throws. The punch throws are weak but will set up his AC's while the kick throws do a lot of damage. If you're good at comboing and have fast figners, it's better to use the punch throw. If you just wanna get your opponent away from Venom, hit em with the kick slam.

  • Venom is Mr. Anti Fireball. I guess that's cause he's weak against fire huh? Anyways, his Venom Fang and Venom Web are both great moves to use when countering fireballs. Both attacks will catch your opponent in their fireball stun. The great thing about the Venom Fang is that even if the opponent manages to block, his lack of recovery delay helps prevent Venom from being counter attacked.

  • Venom has one of the best dashes in the game. The fact that crawls very low to the ground helps him to avoid high attacks while advancing toward his opponent. It's also a very quick dash for such a big guy.

  • Not only does Venom do a lot of damage, he takes very little as well. The fact that he's a big guy makes him very resistant to damage. He's right up there with Hulk and Ryu as one of the toughest guys in the game.

    Disadvantages

  • Venom's ground series just sucks. It's so hard to pull off a decent ground combo with this guy. The best he can do is a jump in to a launcher to an AC. Definitely a source of frustration for people that are used to ground combos.

  • Like Zangief and Hulk, Venom is big. Being a big guy , he is a prime target for dialers and combo people. More hits can be done on him cause he's taller and wider than most of the other characters. Unlike Hulk and Zangief, he doesn't have the benefit of any armor to help him out.

  • Unless you're dashing and air dashing all over the place, you'll find that Venom is a very slow character. Sure, he can pull out some really fast attacks, but generally, his foot speed and jump speed don't help him very much.

    Offense

  • When jumping in, always try to use either his Fierce punch or his Roundhouse kick. Those two attacks are multi hitters and do more damage. This will help make up for the fact that he can't ground combo for diddly squat.

  • Use Venom's throw to web up his opponents. A lot of my opponent's don't know how to use this move right. They just web me and then try to either use a Venom Web or launch right away. It doesn't work like that people. The opponent will break out of it before a Venom Web and you can't screw up the timing of the laucnh. You have to web, pause for a split second and then launch.

  • Always go for an AC. AC's are where Venom really does his damage. If you end it with a Fierce Venom Fang, you'll land at the same time as your opponent. Be ready to hit em with a surprise attack when they try to hit you.

  • Go for short and sweet combos with Venom. He doesn't really have the ability to pull off long, flashy ones. Use his muscle to win instead of your dialling fingers.

    Defense

  • Venom's strength lies in his ability to play keep away. If he doesn't want an opponent to get near him, then they won't. Against air attackers, use either the Venom Rush or his S.Roundhouse to knock em back. If they like to dash in, hit em with a Lunge Bite or if you've got good timging, a Jab Venom Fang.

  • Some people might get frustrated fighting a good keep away Venom player. They'll probably resort to either using their fireballs or trying to chip you with their supers. Venom can take advantage of both situations. Just anticipate their next attack and hit em with a Venom Fang or a Venom Web.

  • If your opponent does manage to break through your defense and gets near you, simply dash or air dash away from them and start over. Either that or you could use either of his throws to get em away or to set em up for an AC.

    Onslaught

  • First Form - You could stick to the general strategy when fighting Onslaught. Just keep blocking and hitting him with Jabs when you have a chance. However, it's always a better idea to pull off Fierce Venom Fang's. It leaves Onslaught stunned and it hurts too. You could also use the Lunge Bite and Death Bites to drain away his life, but it's generally a better idea to save the supers for the next form.

  • Second Form - This form is a piece of cake for Venom . Simply block when you need to and as soon as you see his ugly face, jump up and hit him with a Roundhouse. It 'll hit multiple times for good damage. Simply repeat this over and over to beat Ultima Onslaught. You could also use the Death Bite if you see him on the ground. However, it's safer to stick with the Roundhouses

    Fighting Venom

  • If you're jumping in on him, pray that your character has a high priority jump in. If not, Venom will be able clock you with any of his anti air moves. Once you find the attack that fits the bill, use it as much as you can.

  • You need to get close to this guy. Try not to play keep away cause Venom has very good anti keep away moves . Take the fight to him or make him come to you. Taunt him if you need to. Venom's offense isn't as great as his defense so the two of you will probably be on even terms if he's attacking.

  • If he manages to web you up, shake the stick and jam on the buttons. You will probably be able to break free before he can mount a decent attack. Don't go overboard though. Sometimes people shake the stick too much and end up not blocking by the time they break out.

  • Dashing in on him is risky because of his Lunge Bite . Be ready to block it at any time during your dash. Basically, it's gonna take a lot of poking and prodding to get close enough to this guy. Just be persistent and you'll figure it out.

  • Do not get hit by the Venom Web. It simply hurts. If you see that your opponent has chosen Collosus, Psylocke or Sentinel, be careful of the helper attack.
