August 98 Update I've reviewed all the sites listed, but now I'd like to know if you think to have/know a site better than these ten. Please take note that specialized hosting sites (i.e. sites where the hosting-related content is much more than the general VGAP info) have their specific "Top Ten" page here.
E-mail me your suggestions at cassa@oocities.com .
This is not the same, old, "list o' links". As a matter of fact, I don't care a bit if you know some plain "Vga Planets oriented" site not listed here. :-)I'm going to pick exactly ten of what I personally consider the best Vga Planets sites around. Those you cannot miss without loosing something important.
But, what does make a site "one of the best"?
Well, it can just be because of its beautiful graphics, or for being filled up of useful info, or for hosting the best Vga Planets e-zine ever, or for being different from any other site (the most difficult of all).Or for all these reasons together!
If you believe to have a site better than these ten, or you know where to find it, please e-mail me its address (at cassa@oocities.com). I will be eager to check and add it to the Top Ten, if I find out you were right! ;)
And now...

"The Last Wave" We have a good loking and complete site, here at Last Wave. Two "links" section, one host-oriented and one general-oriented, both filled of names. Support for Vga2html, a program made to automatically generate and upload web pages useful to any VP host, and for VpTools, a player utility. There are also a Forum, an hosting section, a Java-based fighter calculator and an on-line VP help. The Last Wave is now also the reference site for the "Vga Planets Site Of The Month Award". [Cassa]

"Vga Planets Computer Library" This is an impressive and well-organized site: beyond a clean interface it features full support for ICQ, with a "Vga Planets ICQ contacts list", has a good tactical section, divided by race or generic, DosPlan/Winplan archives, add-ons and links. [Cassa]

"Admiral J. Cohen's VGAP site" Although a hosting one, I wanted this site in my Top Ten because of its great looking, optimized for 1024x768. Good the "Guides to the races and add-on" section, well built and complete. The "Ribbons and Medals" awarded to players are a nice touch, especially the ones for the dropping "cowards". :) AutoTroll hosting software is used to automatize some of hosting work. [Cassa]

"Biohazard VGAP" BioHazard interface has been recently updated (June/98), but games hosting has come to a stop due to Cadman being too busy with the "real life" at the moment. Anyway, on this site the "info" section is very complete and well-organized. The "files" section needs some flesh, but, hey, the skeleton is good! :) Also valuable are the "comms" and the "links" sections. [Cassa]

"ISS Syrinx" At Syrinx you'll find a valuable ship description section, showing every single battle and transport ship you can find in Vga Planets, along with full technical specs and special abilities. Also valuable are the sound and graphic replacements for Winplan, and the "special replacement pack for the Alien Add-on". Syrinx also features some classics like the "Sites to See" links section and the introduction to the game. [Cassa]

"The Vga Planets Community Connections" This is a very little site, but I liked very much the idea behind it. To quote the words of its creator, " I have seen many pages about VGA Planets dealing with strategies, archives, and add-ons. The one type missing, though, has always been one dealing with the different areas across the Internet where VGA Planets players can be found. [...]. This site is designed to give VGA Planets players of all experience a place where they can learn about the different VGA Planets communities are located". [Cassa]

"The Planeteer" This is the home site of "The Planeteer", a free e-zine covering all aspects of the game, from tactical to humouristic. It's a shame this site has been (temporarily?) closed due to the editor not having time nor receiving enough new material to keep the e-zine alive. [Cassa]

"The Elite Site" I always check this site first, when connecting to the Net. It has a lot of useful VP utilities, some written by Timo himself, alternative graphics & sound for Winplan, several tactic articles (check out the Birdman Guide To The Galaxy), a "starmap exchange" project and it is continuosly updated! "The Den of the Draconian" Here is another good site. You can download the archives of the conferences of Tim Wisseman, watch the results of Official Best Ship and Best Race polls, check the excellent "E-Mail Host List" (often updated), or search for latest versions of some add-on hosted on this site, like PName, PStable, HugeRock, Mass Driver, GivePlan and many others. "The Border Worlds" Classic contents for this site, which has a companion site called "Io Station" dedicated to the hosting of VP games. BMP and WAV replacements for WinPlan, archives of tactical articles, both race specific and general, a good ship description section and a "Friendly Codes" sub-page. [Cassa]

You could ask "how's Halfling is not in Top Three SOTM"? Well, the main reason is that while I find his site filled of useful info, I can't stand all the advertising its has. For every page you try to see, at least three or four banners are loaded. :(
