War tends to bring out patriotism in even the most subdued individuals. So, when the US announced their intentions of going into Iraq come hell or high water to kick Saddam out it only made the already uber-patriot spirit in America come to an even bigger head. Even though the UN and several key allies didn’t agree with how America wanted to handle the problem of Mean Mr. Hussein, America ignored these trivial problems and invaded the country. A great deal of Americans were already defensive of the USA since 9/11 and the protest of millions of people around the world against the military action just made a lot of people wave the flag and throw around phrases like “Un-American” and others which were just obscenity laden garbage. Now France was very vocal against America going into Iraq and they sort of made themselves look like greedy bastards when they wanted oil and a part of rebuilding Iraq after being so strongly against it. Now people already hate the French because of crude stereotypes that have been dominating the English speaking world (and probably other speaking worlds) for years. Vince and company knows this and can’t ever pass up a chance to do a flash in the pan cheep heat gimmick. So they created La Résistance: a tag team of two rude, American hating Frenchmen. Which basically was taking an old over used gimmick from wrestling past and forcing it upon the view audience of the now. They got the whole shtick down including bad French accents and barrets. They love being from France which, hell Rob Conway loved France so much he joined them in their love of France. Just because these people love their home country which was against a US military action we’re suppose to hate them more then a person that strangles babies while singing J’Lo’s greatest hits in a bad Russian accent. The worst thing is they get booed like they in fact want Saddam in power and want to see US troops dead yet Steve Austin gets cheered for stunning an innocent woman that was the subject of mental/emotional abuse for not liking beer. It kind of makes you think.
