QUICK GAME
REVIEWS
In this section I will review classic to modern videogames
and assign them a score from 1 (being the worst)
to 10 (being the best)
CARRIER-Dreamcast- As the first true survival-horror game on the Dreamcast, Carrier has a lot to live up to. Unfortunately it only succeeds in a few areas. First off, the graphics are nice but they could have been better. The characters look good but some of the environments are pretty bad looking. One complaint is that some of the environments are too dark making it imposible to judge if there is a zombie right in front of you sometimes. Also, you have no control over the camera & the game often forces you into strange viewpoints again making gameplay more difficult than it should be. The sounds are good & the voice acting is horrible but this is something we've come to expect from this genre. Personally I just couldn't get into this game like I did with the Resident Evil series even though it introduces some new elements like the zombie scope I feel that it is just a pale rehash of other survival horror games. If I were you I'd wait for Code Veronica.-5.0
FROGS & FLIES-Atari 2600- Remember the good old days of classic gaming when a company would turn any weird idea into a videogame? Well this one is pretty weird. You play a frog in a swamp & must compete with a rival frog to see who can eat the most flies. You jump back & forth on 2 lillypads using your tongue to catch as many flies in the air as you can. You only play for a certain time limit. You start during the day & once it turns night your game is over. The graphics are nice but there is only 1 screen. I must admit it is fun to have 2 players going at it trying to see who can get the most flies. The only thing keeping this frm being a really fun game is the lack of control you have over your frog. You can really only jump back & forth & can't control how high you jump or where your character moves. It is a nice diversion but one you won't be playing forever.-3.5
VIGILANTE 8-N64- If you have always wanted a Twisted Metal style car combat game for your N64 then you finally have your wish...sort of. The levels & cars are all well designed & the hidden vehicles are fun. The sounds are pretty good but nothing spectacular. The high-res modes don't seem to improve the game noticeably & hurt the frame rate slightly but not enough to detract from the game. The only real problem I have with the game is that some weapons are way too powerful. Get a certain special weapon & you can easily decimate any foe. The other problem is how the cars react when shot. For some reason they fly high up into the air. This wouldn't be so bad but another player can use a special weapon (like bees) to helplessly juggle your car for multiple hits & an easy kill. It is pretty frustrating to be the one getting hit like this. It is still a good game but it could have been made just a bit better.-7.0
FROGGER-Atari 2600- This is a port of the famous classic arcade game. I must first say that there are other better ports of Frogger available on classic systems but the Atari 2600 version is a fun little game on its own. The graphics are ok for the 2600 but not exactly as faithful to the coin-op as other conversions. All you have to do is cross from one side of the screen to the other with cars, lillypads, & crocodiles getting in your way. It sounds simple & on the Atari it is. This is probably the easiest version of Frogger but it is still quite fun & later levels will challenge you. As with most classics there is really only 1 screen with a couple new obstacles showing up throughout the game to challenge you. It is an enjoyable game but there are better ports of Frogger out there like the Supercharger one. If a 2600 is all you have then get it but if you have the option you should try out some other versions first.-4.0
