Sirana's Freezing Blast
By Brad Hoot (unaowl@icanect.net) February, 1997
The freezing blast is a small rift to the elemantal plane of ice. This rift consists of a small (1" diameter) glowing sphere, which is controlled such that nothing gets out of it, and which is shot from the caster's hand upon completion of the spell. When the sphere strikes its target, the rift opens, tearing a small open rift in the planes, and letting pure cold from the plane of ice into the area of detonation. It has an area of effect equal to a fireball. The rift is completely contained, and it will not expand, nor can any creature pass through, as it is only in existence long enough to let out the blast. Saves are conducted in the same manner as a fireball, except that all fire based creatures suffer a -4 penalty. Damage is 1d6 + 1 points per level of the caster, up to a maximum of 15d6 + 15 points of damage. The cold that permeates the area is so absolute that all plant life in the area, including intellegent plants, die instantly is they fail a save vs. death. If they succeed, they take an additional 10 points of damage. This area is cold enough to freeze all water in the area. This will instantly kill all water elementals or their kin. Tremendous force is generated by the sudden rush of ice and cold, enough to splinter wood of less than 3" thickness (magical staves get a save vs. Crushing blows) or knock down creatures size L or smaller. Any ice or snow created by this spell melt unnaturaly slowly, and the temperature in the area stays lower than the normal for at least 2 weeks. The material components for this spell are a 6" long piece of clear crystal (not consumed) and a white feather.
