Werecurse

Class: Wizard and Druid
Level: 3
Casting time, 10 rounds.
Materials: V S.
Duration: permanent.

Werecurse inflicts a Lycanthropy like condition upon a WILLING subject. It allows them to freely change into an animal form and gain all the abilities of that animal.

After the spell has been cast, the recipient of the spell must personally hunt down and kill a creature of the same form he wishes to transform into. He/She has 24 hours to do this or the spell wears off and must be recast. The creature must be a normal animal, no magical beings or monsters. (Bear, wolf, bat, bird, snake, dog, lion, etc.) The spirit of the slain animal will be absorbed by its killer. After this happens, subject will be able to assume the form of the chosen creature at any time. It takes one round to change into the form.

Although the spell seems very beneficial, there is a hidden curse. Each time the subject changes into the animal form he/she must remain in that form for one mandatory round plus an additional mandatory round for each time he/she has changed. For example, a man with a Bear Werecurse changes into his bear form for the third time. He must remain a bear for one round plus three rounds, for a total of four mandatory rounds.

Each time the subject changes into his/her animal form, the spirit of the animal becomes a little stronger and gains more control. There is a chance that the animal's spirit will take over the character, causing the character to lose all intelligence and become the animal permanently. The chance of permanently becoming the animal is the number of mandatory rounds rolled on d100.

The animal must be released every 30 days. The animal's spirit becomes restless and demands freedom. If the subject is in a situation where he does not want to change (Such as visiting in the king's castle, in a village that fears werecreatures, etc.) he/she may attempt to hold back the animal and prevent the change from taking place. To do so, the character rolls a saving throw versus Spell. There is a cumulative -1 modifier to the save for each day the animal is held back. If the saving throw is missed, the change takes place and the animal is in control for the number of mandatory rounds. At the end of this time the subject rolls the number of mandatory rounds on a d100 to see if the animal is permanently in control, or if he/she regains control.

A Remove Curse will not remove a Werecurse: the being took the Werecurse willingly. As a result it infects and changes the being's soul. However, a Remove Curse will give a another roll to regain control if he/she has been permanently changed into the animal form.

At the GM's option, a Werecurse may be removable by a Wish.

Eventually, _all_ subjects of Werecurse become permanently changed into their animal form.
