Inn at Union Square **** - Union Square. Small Inn, with modern or georgian style rooms- CB (seems nice), evening wine and hors d oeuvres. Rates: Deluxe Room 179/night ~ 1074+150. Pettite Suite 199/night ~ 1194+167
Andrews Hotel *** - Near Union Square. Small hotel, victorian rooms. CB. No AC. Free soda in room fridge. Pettite Suite 954+133. Bay King 894+125.
Chanceller Hotel *** - Union Square - "comfort without extravagance". No CB, No AC. 918+128 (AAA) Ask for non-connecting room.
Golden Gate Hotel ** - Union Square family Edwardian B&B. pets. CB, No AC. 130+tax per night (total ~780+110 6n)
Union Street Inn *** Cow Harbor (by water N SF) Small B&B with very good breakfast, and only 6 rooms. Call for availability - rate probably ~ 1200+168.
Hotel Rex ** Union Square. Medium sized hotel with good rates - complimentary evening wine. Deluxe King - 875+122.
Things to do
Sausalito - art galleries, and a scale model of SF Bay (at 2100 Bridgeway)
Coit Tower - scenic views and art from the top of Telegraph Hill Blvd. at Greenwich St. or Lombard St
Westin St Francis - Meet under the clock - a classic meeting place in the lobby of the old hotel. Powell St between Geary and Post.
City Hall - one of largest rotunda's in the world - now houses SF history museum as well.
Blue and Gold Fleet - offers trips to Alcatraz, and 4 hour tours of Muir Wood (leave at 9 AM and 2 PM - 50$ pp)
Aquarium of the Bay - adjacent to pier 39 - not as good as the Steinhart Aquarium - but for the next few years may be the better destination since Steinhart is truncated/closed do to refurbishment.
USS Pampanito - parked at pier 45 - an actual WW2 submarine.
The Exploratorium - The premier hands on science museum in America. 3601 Lyon St In the Palace of Fine Arts (at Marina Blvd.)
California Palace of the Legion of Honor - Grounds overlooking the Golden Gate, and houses extensive art collection. In Lincoln Park (34th Ave. and Clement St)
Asian Art Museum - Premier museum dedicated to Asian Art in America. 200 Larkin St Between Fulton and McAllister sts
Cartoon Art Museum Museum dedicated to Cartoon Art - 655 Mission Street (by New Montgomery).
Golden Gate Park - offers good trails, gardens (including the Japanese Tea Garden, M.H. de Young Art Museum, and has a free shuttle also. Probably could make a day out of it...
Places to eat:
**** - The Carnelian Room - Great food and stunning food from the 52nd floor of the Bank of America building. Jacket and Tie required (though apparently not enforced - Tie probably is enough).
*** - Tadich Grill - one of the best old-time seafood places in SF. Sourdough is apparently legendary there... no reservations. 240 California St, between Battery and Front sts, The Financial District
*** - Belden Place - the restaurant row of SF, with a lot of outdoor seating and a nice choice of midpriced restaurants.
** - Boulevard Restaurant - one of the top restaurants in SF. High end French. 1 Mission St. Financial Dist/Embarc.
*** - Zuni Cafe - Must try - another top restaurant in SF - with a constantly updated menu, good place for contemporary northern californian cuisine. Burger reccomended highly as well...Looks good. 1658 Market Street, Between Franklin & Gough. Civic Center/Van Ness
** Delfina - Well reviewed Italian restaurant - best to check the menu before booking. The attached pizzeria is apparently very good, 3621 18th St Between Dolores and Guererro sts, The Mission District. For Italian the other reccomended place is:
** A16 - Another highly regarded Italian restaurant - they have personal pizza's as well. 2355 Chestnut St,between Scott and Divisadero, Marina District.
** - La Taqueria - well regarded locally especially for burritos and tacos - 2889 Mission St (between 24th and 25th)
* - Park Chow - 1238 9th Ave by Golden Gate Park. Probably a better bet for American place for lunch by the park.
* - Boudin Bakery - supposedly the best sourdough bread in SF - multiple locations, including one in Union Square
* - Hamburgers - Just like the name of the place suggests. 737 Bridgeway in Sausalito.
Shopping:
Ferry Building Marketplace - fresh food, vendors - The Embarcadero, at Market St
Original Levi Strauss store - 300 Post Street
Macy's - Union Square - one of the biggest department stores in the whole world. Tom's cookies (inside) is supposedly very good.
Baseball games that week:
Giants: Against Nats, Tuesday 7:15, Wednesday 12:35. Against Rockies Friday 7:15, Saturday 8:05, and Sunday 1:05.
