Heralds and Rumours
Giants Attack Forestaine.
Thorelia, Le Royaume du le Forestaine,
991 RT.[translated from baleric] When, upon traveling west, I saw them, I could hardly believe it. For all my life, I had heard the tale of the ice giants, beings of such immense hieght that a man would lose sight of their heads among the clouds, and scarcely held any truth to them. Today, I can truly say, that I have seen them!
True, they are not as tall as the tales about them, but they are magnificent and terrifying indeed. I saw them!
I was driving my wagon on the road to Thorelia, having journeyed from Rhod, to sell my wares in the city markets, when there was a crashing sound in the distance. The sound, so loud as to unsettle the mules, came in waves of noise, having bounced among the foothills of the Bone Mountains. As I stopped along the road, I could see, through the pines, a movement beneath the horizon. It was early morning, and the season was full of chill and mist, yet something, perhaps Heimdall himself, urged me to look closer. And there they were, clad in green helms large enough to serve as shelter for three against the rains.
With my breath holden in my throat, I watched for any sign that they had heard me and prayed that the mules stay quiet. By the providence of the Gods alone, I think, they did not, and made their way through the forest, out of my sight.
I could not have counted them, such was my fear, but I reckon their number to be at least three. They seemed dressed only in green cloaks of travel, but I espied at least the tip of one great sword as they passed. I tremble still at the thought of what one such weapon could do to such a man as I.
Upon reaching Thorelia, I sought out, as quickly as I could, the ear of a Crusader. I told my tale, in near hysterics, as the words fumbled clumsily from my lips. He calmly thanked me and bade me speak of it to no-one. And, I have heeded his word until now. It has been three months since I spoke to him, and I have almost burst with the hidden wonder of my experience. So, now I tell you this -- if those huge creatures of myth have indeed broken through the border, how long until the uncivilised barbarians follow in their path?
Perhaps it is time to, once again, fear the coming of the terrible creatures of the ice wastes! Mark my words! Be afeared for your life and your way of life. If our Crusaders have grown careless, our lives may hang in the balance!
