Heralds and Rumours
Purple Piper Aids Victims of Yatton.
Town of Yatton, Kingdom of Orion,
991 RT.It was a dark and fearsome night in Yatton, the thriving border town of south-east Orion, when everything went amiss. An impromptu festival in the surrounding woods is interrupted by the terrible and violent attack of Ogres! Vicious, unclean and lusting for blood, they pour through the woods and make war upon the town, killing those in their way and setting ablaze the homes and shops nearby. The local militia suffers horrible harm when they attempt to halt the assault. All looks grim, and at the monsters' whim, it seems the town is lost.
Yet, the raiders did not realize that the town was being visited by the famed bard, the Purple Piper! Gathering up a small band of unlikely yet capable heroes, the brave bard leaps into action. Telling the militia to fall back, he fells four of the foul fiends himself. His band of heroes holds the monstrous ogres at bay in the town plaza. Battering back the flames, they even manage to save the priests of Odin as their temple burns down! They save the terrified townsfolk from a fate worse than death, putting themselves in the very path of danger.
When it all ends, the town survives and the ogres flee. Yet, this is not enough, for this plague may rise again, and the Purple Piper has travelled the land far and wide and knows what must be done. Selecting the three from his small band who are the least afraid, the bard vows to track the surviving monsters to their loathsome lair and wipe them out for good.
The journey is treacherous and the chase is dangerous, but finally, after slaying the unwitting sentries, the Purple Piper and his small band stride into the fortified cave of the fearsome ogres and, once and for all, end the threat to the good people of Yatton. Doing what the Rangerguard could not do, what the Crusaders dared not do, the Purple Piper and his band return to Yatton to lend a gentler kind of assistance.
Despite the danger they defeated, the Purple Piper and his band quietly leave town, wanting no reward for their pains. They know that making the land that much safer for good folk is thanks enough. Yet, the people of Yatton know, that somewhere out there, the Purple Piper roams, facing evil and defeating it.
