Lygeia

A Brief Bio

Lygeia is a feline of the jaguar family, with black fur set with jet rosettes barely visible against the glossy sheen of her coat. Her emerald eyes are bright with friendliness, as is her ready smile. Lygeia's beauty is accentuated by her very graceful stride, slender frame, and delicate features.

Lygeia prefers to wear the simple vest, breeches, and high boots of a fisherfurre even when she is not plying her trade, for comfort and the simple fact that she can't afford anything finer. Above her heart is her one treasure, a bright silver brooch wrought in the shape of the Vinca sigil, which she wears to remind herself of Perivlon's example and her oaths to aid those in need. Lygeia also sports a rapier and main gauche on her belt.

Lygeia was born in a small fishing village on an island off the coast of Grreece where her family lived the simple life of fisherfurres. Her life was peaceful and uneventful until tragedy struck and her life was forever changed by the curse of a siren. Arriving in Theriopolis bedraggled and wracked with despair, Lygeia seemed a wretch with little to offer but tears for her own fate. Perivlon came and wiped away her tears with his laughter and a tender hand about her shoulder. He taught her what it meant to take an unfortunate fate by the tail and make it shine with the brilliant glory of devotion. For the first time, Lygeia looked at her curse and saw, not a death sentence, but a chance to be the furre she had promised herself as a cub that she would become.

The realization has led her to answer the call in her heart and begin the pursuit of a new vocation. Toward that end, Lygeia was admitted to the Guild of Neraphet as Point Guard; a position which has given her the confidence to move among her fellow furres and serve them as best she may. She has also begun her religious and philosophical studies, sometimes to the chagrin of any furres within earshot as she, rather fervently, tries to bring harmony to their souls.

Lygeia's earliest devotions were to the Prime, Jemmion, Lord of the First Moon, and to Dahlsea, Lady of Seas, to whom she still depends on for safety and success in her livelihood. Increasingly, though, she has sought the patronage of Reegar, Lord of Strength, and Scarlong, Lord of Shields, as her quests bring her into dangers of a different kind. Among the Exalted Primes, it is to Danival, Lady of Beauty, that Lygeia most frequently pays homage.

Though she is always eager to make new friends and enjoys nothing more than an evening of merriment, Lygeia remains a somewhat private furre. She is still ashamed of the curse she bears and is reluctant to place the burden of her doubts and fears on others. In her heart, she knows that her quick and fierce righteousness at other's cruelty is too often untempered by justice and compassion, making it naught but vengeance. Believing herself to be little better than the siren who cursed her and indeed, driven by the fear that she is the siren, Lygeia struggles to overcome her weakness and strives to cause no harm to any furre.

When she is not fishing or pursuing her work with the Guild of Neraphet, Lygeia enjoys hunting small game birds, dancing, and perhaps most of all, swapping tales with her fellow furres. It is with them that Lygeia has once again come to know the warmth and joy of home and hearth. Lygeia currently lives near the docks of Theriopolis in the small backroom of a tavern. Though it is humble and lacking refinements, Lygeia is always glad to welcome visitors to her home. Her favorite foods include blackbird pie, partridge and dumplings, and strawberry milk.
