Character is Mute!
No, your character didn't just suck down too many helium balloons - you've just performed an action that made your character silent. Type the following: ' hello (apostrophe-space-hello). This should give you character his/her tongue back.

Patcher Won't Patch
For roughly three weeks, I was without any Ultima Online because of this problem. If you download a large patch (version 1.23.9 is the usual culprit because of its 6.6MB size) and you don't have enough hard drive space, you'll receive 'an error occured during patching' message. Make sure you have enough room for the patch to unpack and write over whatever files it's modifying (the 6.6MB file is looking for about 15MB free). As always, a full reinstall will never hurt, and is sometimes necessary if you have a patching problem. Once after running into this 'out of space' error, I was forced to do a minimum install, then uninstall and do a typical install just to rid my hard drive of several naughty files which prevented me from simply reinstalling the way it was.

Although Origin claims the new AutoPatcher update only adds resumable downloads, there may also be other minor updates. Go to my files section and download the newest one just to be sure.

If you still have problems, you might want to consider manually patching. Each of the patch files can be found at the Ultima Online Treasure Chest (www.uotc.com) along with instructions on how to 'do it yourself'.

Even if you can't get a patch working for one reason or another, you can CTRL-ALT-DEL while the AutoPatcher is running and close it down. You'll then proceed to the main game with whatever version you currently have and it will typically work.

If Murphy's Law is throwing you against the wall, submit your bug, and I'll put it up for all to see. If possible, I will post the fix here. If not, I'll forward the error directly to OSI for further research.
