Professions

After you choose a homeland, choose a profession that you would like you character to dedicate his life for. There are 5 different professions: Fighter/Knight, Thaumaturge, Wizard, Martial Artist, and Thief. Depending on what you want to do in the game, one of these professions is right for you. Many people create a couple different chars to try out all the professions. Select a link below to see a brief summary about each profession. These are also the stats I recommend: Always put 18 in Constition, and go as high in you can in strength and dexterity. Then, depending on your profession, put the rest of the points in your proffesion's skill. That would be Intelligence for Wizards, Wisdom for Thaumaturges, and for the 3 other professions there is no primary stat. Never put points in Charisma, and it does not influence anything in the game.

Fighter/Knight

Fighters are characters who have devoted their life to studying the use of deadly weapons and accumulating physical strength. They do not spend any time researching magic as a fighter, instead they spend all of their time honing their skills in their weapon of choice. After they become a knight by performing the Knight's Quest, they gain the ability to cast spells and can also complete the Agate Quest, which gives them 37 extra hps. He requires no spell preperation, and can never cast more than one spell at a time. I recommend getting a returning weapon as soon as possible, as it helps them avoid jumping into every battle.

Thaumaturge

Thaumaturges are characters who spend their lives studying the healing arts and the white magics. Although their arsenal of spells contains many healing spells, they also wield such devastating spells as Death and Stun. Thaumaturges are one of the characters I like the most, especially after you gain the ability to raise other heroes. Thaums are always needed in a battle, because in a heated fight Knights usually don't have time to cast Cure on themselves or others.

Wizard

Wizards are characters who, instead of learning healing magic or the use of weapons, devote all of their time to the research of offensive and defensive spells. While they are not able to heal themselves or raise others, at higher levels they get some of the deadliest spells in the game, including Ice Spear and Dragon Breath. Wizards almost never develop skill in a weapon unless it is a returning weapon, as they rely on their spells instead of their arms for their strength.

Martial Artist

Martial Artists are characters who do not practice in the skills of weapons, but instead learn how to fully use their body to demolish their opponents. After they go on the Crystal Gauntlets Quest, and develop themselves beyond black belt, Martial Artists are a force to be reckoned with. They do not need to worry about wearing armor, and they usually only wear a light tunic or robe to keep their body light, so they can be as nimble as they need to be to jumpkick. Martial Artists are harder to start out as, but become deadly after developed.

Thief

Thieves are characters that prefer to attack from the shadows, and use clever attacks rather than frontal attacks to kill their opponents. When they kill the Doom.Orc and get his +4 crossbow, they truly become a force to be reckoned with. They possess some vital spells, including Night Vision and Feather Fall. At higher levels, and when they are used cleverly, thieves can take out huge lair crits without even a scratch. Thieves are often commisioned to help Knights in the Halberd Quest.
