History: Kedaywyn Tresean was born to a rather normal,
unexceptional family on a small farm outside the Sembian city of
Daerlun. As the youngest of three boys, Kedaywyn was babied and
watched out for as a small child. His older brothers and father
handled the chores on the farm so Kedaywyn was left alone to his
own world and imagination as he grew up. Ked grew up running
and playing in the hills and forrests of his family’s land, reciting
tales of heroics of long lost heroes and heroines that his father
told he and his brothers at night. Growing up this way, without
other children and few grownups around outside his parents,
Kedaywyn became very shy around strangers. Whenever the family
would take a trip to Daerlun, Kedaywyn would marvel at the wonders
of the city but would keep quiet and to himself. He would also
act this way whenever visitors would come to the family farm.
At the age of ten, Kedaywyn’s world was utterly shattered.
While playing in the forrests one fine summer afternoon, a band of
ogres attacked his father and brothers in the field. Vastly
outnumbered, they were easily slain by the marauding band who
then turned their sights on his mother. Overcome with grief at
the loss of her family, Ked’s mother fought the ogres who slew
her right away instead of trying to capture and mess with the
vengefull woman. The band did not stay around the farm, merely
looting it and setting the rest on fire. Kedaywyn returned to
his comfortable home that evening to find his house in flames and
his family slain. The shocked youngster ran into the forrests
again, unable to comprehend the disaster of the day and hoping
that he could wish it all away. He remained in the forest for a
day and a half before returning. Kedaywyn returned to the farm
to beat the vultures and other carrion from eating his family’s
remains in the fields. He quickly set about doing the only
thing he could then; bury them.
Standing in front of the last of the stone graves, his
head bowed in prayer, was how Derren Graybeard, a ranger from
the surrounding area, found young Kedaywyn. Derren said nothing
as the boy continued his quiet service. When finished, Kedaywyn
finally noticed the elder man and went to him. Not a word was
said as Kedaywyn knew that Derren was his only hope of survival
now. Derren put the exhausted boy on his horse and carried him
from the horrible scene of death. For the next five years, Kedaywyn
rarely spoke, seldom to Derren and certainly not to anyone else.
Derren took the boy in and raised him as his son, teaching him
the ways of the forrest and those of the ranger. Kedaywyn
learned to hunt, prepare his kill, set snares, what berries to
eat and what others would sicken or kill him. Derren taught
Kedaywyn everything he knew about the woods around Daerlun and
the way of the world as much as possible but he never intruded
into Kedaywyn’s privacy. His family and the attack on them was
never discussed between the two of them, Ked burying the hurt
and anger deep within himself.
In the winter of Kedaywyn’s fifth year with Derren, the
old man took ill from the cold and was sick the entire winter.
Kedaywyn took care of him as best he could but he knew that the
old man, well past seventy years of age, was dying. That spring
Derren died and another loved one in Kedaywyn’s young life had
left him. As soon as the weather broke, Kedaywyn packed his
belongings and heading out of the valley he had shared with
Derren for the past five years. Swallowing his fear of the
city, Kedaywyn headed to Daerlun and there joined the Almeddine,
the western army of Sembia. Not one for getting alone comfortably
with others, Ked was given a job as a scout for the army. The
skills that he had learned from Derren were especially suited to
such tasks and Kedaywyn was thankfull for the privacy. It was in
the Almeddine that he refrined his archery skills, becoming a
skilled sharpshooter as well able tracker.
While a part of the Almeddine, Kedaywyn was introduced
to the moderate ideology of the Blue Moon faction in Sembia.
Abhorring violence himself, even though he was exceptionally
good at it at times, he took to the pacifist ways of the Blue
Moon. The growing animosity between the Blue Moon faction and
the more aggressive and war-like Blue Crescent faction caused
major problems for Kedaywyn who wanted no part in the conflict.
Feeling that it was time to move on, Kedaywyn opted for early
retirement from the Almeddine, took his severance pay and headed
out of Sembia, looking for a place away from warring factions and
marauding bands of brigands.
Attitude and disposition: Because of his time spent
alone and away from others, Kedaywyn has a moderate fear of large
groups of people. He would rather avoid them at all costs, but
if unable to will become quite uncomfortable in them. Crowds make
him quite fidgety and he will begin to sweat and look around for
a way of escaping the crowded area. He usually feels suffocated
confined within large city walls and can only take a few days of
staying within them. Small towns or villages do not bother him
overly much excepting for the people but he would much rather stay
out under the stars than in a tavern.
Kedaywyn also has a phobia of enclosed places. This stems
from his fear of large cities and the feeling of suffocation
that he feels. Having spent most of his life communing with
nature and sleeping under the stars and such, he feels confined
any other way. Thus, he has his fear of enclosed places.
Although no longer a part of the Blue Moon faction in Sembia,
Kedaywyn still carries his prayer book and sect insignia with
him. He keeps the insignia hidden on a chain around his neck.
Although quite skilled at combat, Kedaywyn does abhor violence
and will seek to find another solution whenever possible. Once
resolved to combat though, he will utilize all his skills to
vanquish his foe as quickly as possible, seldom showing mercy.
Following combat, Kedaywyn will often move off to a spot to
himself and pull forth his prayer book and read from it. The
reading of the book calms his nerves and allows him to regain
control, he also feels refreshed and reassured after reading the
word.
Following the battle with the ogres in the cave where his left hand was crushed, Kedaywyn has developed a subconcious tik of flexing and unflexing his left hand. When faced with a decision, he will often be seen flexing the hand as he contemplates the choices before him.
Current Situation: Kedaywyn has joined a group going by the
name of the 'Band of the Egg'. The group currently consists of Ferous,
a female elven priestess; Kaz, a human bounty hunter; Guybrush, a
gnome enchanter; Angleddin, a dwarven priest; and Sarina, a female rogue.
Having met in the town of Eveningstar, the group has secured a charter to
adventure in the lands of Cormyr. The group is currently seeking out the
individuals responsible for the murder of one of the townspeople and his family.
Appearance: Kedaywyn has typical Sembian features, tan
skin, brown eyes, a thin beard and curly, black hair. He stands
5’ 11” tall and weighs 180 lbs or so. He is not a handsome man
but neither is he unattracitve. Most times he could be described
as average looking. He has a modest build, one that is used to
the heavy chores of farming for one’s self and the tasks required
of him as a soldier. He typically wears a small leather vest for
protection over his tunic with dark breeches and black walking
boots. He has a long brown, weathered cloak with a hood that is
held with a silver broach. From his right side is a longsword
and at his left hangs a short sword. Across his back is his
quiver of arrows and he carries his composite bow with him. He
also has a backpack and several pouches along his belt.
