Necromancer advice..
For your main Army wizard I would take a Necromancer Lord as he retains spells automatically and is decent in hand to hand. Tool him up with either the Staff of Damnation or The Skull Staff (useful for dispels), also a Black Amulet as he has no saving throw (this will confer a 4+ ward against cannon balls etc but not against auto kills) . Take along the Cloak of Mists and Shadows, you turn ethereal, move 24" and are immune to everything except spells and magic items. I also usually place my necromancer in with my brand new shiny mounted Wights as the enemy can't target him specifically. This will create a monster of a unit to kill, easily topping 30 wounds in total!! As for the last item, I usually wait to see whom my opponent is. But a good all round choice is the Forbidden Rod which enables you to cast a spell as if it were cast with Total Power, however you do take a wound on a roll of 4+ (very useful when the Winds of magic aren't that strong). Another idea is to take the Rod of Power which can store Winds of Magic..
As for spells, always take Vanhel's, Wind of Death and Summon Undead Horde. Summon Undead Horde can be used to raise more units right in front of the enemy they have to take a fear test immediatly. You can always be really sneaky and raise a unit in the enemy rear.... Summon Undead Horde can also be used to raise or repair Skeletons, Zombies, Skull Chuckers, Chariots or Horsemen...
As for the other spell, again I like to wait and see who my opponent is. Remember Necromancers get to CHOOSE their spell from the Necromantic deck, they can also use Dark Magic deck or one other nominated colour. A good idea is to take the Book of Ashur and choose the High Magic deck and try to get that pesky Banishment spell purely so your opponent doesn't decimate your entire army by undoing the spell that animates them... but remember if you take a different colour deck you have to use exclusively from that deck, how does no Vanhel's or Summon Undead Horde sound?Well, what can you say about Vampires? Take as many as possible, preferably Lords. Arm them with The Hydra Sword and the Carstein Ring and another item that may take your fancy....Charge them into combat and sit back and enjoy! Great for slaughtering cattle rank and file troops..
Now for the big man himself, NAGASH. Apart from looking like Coco the Clown on heat, Nagash is nothing to be laughed at. Sure, he may HAVE to take his own magic items but they are pretty good anyway. He is rock hard and will easily slaughter even the most powerful enemy characters....A word of warning though he tends to attract enemy Warmachines like a rotting corpse attracts a Ghoul.. (Haven't you ever wondered why Ghouls just don't take a bite out of Zombies? Hey, an al fresco buffet....
