Goldeneye 007 is the new first-person
shooter from Rare and Nintendo. Although this category is
already overcrowded, Rare has added a new twist, deeming
the game a "spy simulation". Goldeneye is
packed full with many levels, tons of enemies to blow
away, and the deathmatch mode which all help create this
stunning game. Goldeneye 007 is simply amazing.
You are Bond, James Bond, as you
help save London from the Goldeneye satellite. The game
follows the movie exactly as you accomplish many
different missions. The single-player game includes 18
missions and two secret missions. In each mission you
must accomplish different objectives before you can
preceed, such as destroying alarms and installing covert
modems. The thing that sets this game from apart from
other first person shooters is the "spy" theme.
You don't run around and blast everything in sight. In
most missions, stealth will prevail over all out
fighting. For instance, if you run into a room with your
machine gun blaring, it will put all the enemies in the
vicinity on alert and set off alarms and a whole bunch of
guys will all rush and surround you until your dead. It
is better to pick off the enemies with a silenced PP7, so
you won't get overwhelmed and seen by security cameras.
All the good and bad guys from the movie are also
included in the game.
The graphics are visually
stunning and the polygonal animation is crisp and clear.
The enemies' AI is great as they react to the sound of
the guns and will duck, roll, and jump. Where you shoot
enemies is also taken into effect. If you blast a guy in
the head he will die instantly, if you hit him in the leg
or arm he will grab the wounded limb. The death scenes
are equally amazing. Enemies die according to where you
hit them and with what weapon. Some will squrim around
before dying, while others will fall forward or fly back.
Goldeneye doesn't contain vast amounts of blood, but this
is only a very minor setback if your looking for the
blood splattering, guts flying sort of thing. Goldeneye
007 contains many weapons and gadgets to help you on your
missions, such as: machine guns, silenced guns, sniper
rifles, mines, grenades, rocket launchers, modems,
cameras, datathiefs, and a watch laser and magnet.
Goldeneye 007 has three difficulty levels: Agent,
Secret Agent, and 00 Agent to keep the replay value up.
Instead of decreasing your life or making you weaker,
each difficulty level contains more objectives to be
accomplished. Two secret missions can also be opened by
beating the game on Secret Agent and 00 Agent. Cheat
codes are also implemented into the game to give it more
replay value. By beating each mission on a certain
difficulty level in a set amount of time, a new cheat
will be available that can be used in the single-player
missions and in multiplayer. Check our codes section for these cheats and
times.
The multiplayer deathmatch mode
is tremendous. When the missions get old, you can always
battle some friends. The deathmatch mode is the best part
of the game. You can battle in 12 different levels, and
change settings such as what weapons are to be used, how
many kills are needed to win the match and pick from as
many as 32 different characters. The multiplayer mode has
minimal lag and retains the fast paced action even with
four players.
Goldeneye 007 is probably the best first-person
shooter out right now. The game provides lots of variety
and great graphics along with the multiplayer
capabilities, which will keep the game fun. Goldeneye 007
is a must have for almost any gamer.
