Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is the
biggest adventure to hit the Nintendo 64. You are Turok,
as you search around the Lost Land for the powerful
Chronoscepter, which has been scattered into eight pieces
in this new 3-D adventure. While searching through the
eight stages, you battle some of the coolest enemies to
be found in a video game. You get to blast raptors,
T-Rex's and other creatures away with shotguns, rocket
launchers, rifles, and grenade launchers.
Each of the eight stages are huge, packed
with enemies and lots of times you'll find yourself lost
not knowing where to go next. Unlike games such as Doom,
where you mainly run through corridors, Turok is out in
the wide open, out in the forest or jungle. You'll find
yourself using the map almost constantly. In the stages
you'll find keys to open the portals to different levels
at the Hub Ruins. Awaiting you at the end is the almighty
Campaigner.
The graphics and animation are awesome in Turok, with
detailed creatures and objects. The deaths are very
dramatic, none of this just fall over garbage in this
game, with blood flying everywhere.
The play
control is a little awkward, and may take some time
getting used to. Jumping requires some ammount of
practice, and it usually takes a couple tries to get
where you're going. Some practice stages are included to
familarize you with the controls.
Turok has a few flaws, but they are minor ones. Great
graphics and animation along with huge levels and enemies
make Turok: Dinosaur Hunter one very cool game.
