nothing eventful The past few weeks have seen nothing eventful except the accelerated pace of my culture consumption and too many hours in the sweltering heat shuttling around in my brother's car (to do stuff like get my computer fixed and geek-trip in Virra Mall). I'm just about ready to bang my head in frustration over my lack of creative output. An unused bag of plaster of paris and barely touched color pencils are the only fruits of my so-called artistic endeavors. Now I could whine more about that, but I'm not in the mood. I did however, manage to peel myself from the bed before noon and got dressed before Claire picked me up this morning. Thus, a trip oriented towards interviewing a bunch of metalheads in their late 20s resulted. Highly interesting fodder to feed my Observer tendencies, I guess. They're gonna be part of the upcoming ZineCon at Surrounded By Water, which I think I may have mentioned somewhere in these pages. If I didn't well, then, there's a plug for you. I haven't been exposed or immersed too much in any sort of subcultural hulla-balloo for a few years now, geekdom included, save for the punk meatage that I'm regularly placed in by my association with the Dumpling Press and Friends circuit, so it was kind of funny to hear standard metal-style nomens like Black Apocalypes and Werewolf be bandied about in conversation around me. In any case, what is important is that they're potentially game for a few things, although Claire is hoping to wring them for some "keynote speakers". Oh well, Claire got their zines and tapes so there's some more consumption fodder for her to be had for now. That should stop her from watching XYZ. All this fun was spent at Alabang Town Center (owned by the local business wunderclan of Ayalas), that occupies an unclear place in my mind, with regards to its position as a social space. I could go on about that idea, but maybe some other time. I also ran into an entire troop of Woodrosian girls, whom I all know by virtue of association with Goey and Corinna. It was kinda strange seeing all of them declaring their presence together with the force of numbers. They all happened to look terribly tired too, dressed only in summer dresses. Then again it was hot outside, so I can't blame them. Claire and I also watched Chocolat, but not before consuming our self-prescribed medication of caffeine and senseless blah on The Sims and The Powerpuff Girls . I haven't really followed the latter, but Claire enlightened me on the plots of a few semi-po-mo episodes. Chocolat was highly entertaining. Claire and I spent the time between the cinema exit and her car deconstructing the aspects of Liberating Outside Force and Insular Traditionalist Community, a story motif that is not at all uncommon to see in film. I could really discuss this film a lot, I mean it's not exactly on my top list of films of the year or anything, but its such a loaded story that its rife with deconstructing potential, (Then again, so is Save the Last Dance but see, the former does not make me want to reach it and crush someone's larynx, and bears no resemblance to a Benetton ad.) but I won't cause I'm lazy to do it in digital prose. Talk to me na lang.
