KJ was sold a unit that someone else already owned
Westgate Timeshare Resort Issues
Date of Incident: 10/19/2002
We recently took a tour of Westgate and actually purchased a unit. While signing the papers, we were told the closing cost would be covered by the builder, but should we decide to cancel, we would be responsible for that cost. Nine days later, we received a call from Westgate informing us that the unit we bought was already sold to someone else. A year ago. So they tried to offer us another deal but by now we have very little faith in their company. We tell them no thanks and ask them to refund our deposit. Everything seemed OK.
Within a half hour after that call, someone else calls with another "deal." We say no again but this time we're told we have to send a cancellation letter. The next morning we get another call with another deal and say no again. This time we're told we have to send a cancellation letter and send back the new owner packet. And all of this has to be post marked within 10 days of signing the contracts, which happened to be that day.
Immediately after that call, we get a call from the closing officer. She tells us that there are certain "costs" involved. Such as our "free" breakfast. At this point I was losing my patience and was quite angry. She agreed to waive the fees and return our deposit, but we'd still need to send the cancellation letter and new owner packet. I sent them that day with a copy of the letter going to our attorney.
Hopefully this nightmare will be over soon. I think Westgate sold us that unit, figuring they'd just get us in the door, then switch us around later. We can't be the only ones this has happened to.
