LN Friend is Owner - is Threatened with a Suit
Westgate Timeshare Resort Issues

Date of Incident: 4/29/2004

I found your Westgate website -- can't say I was surprised at what I read. I had a very similar bad experience with Fairfield Resorts but fortunately I had decided before I even went that there was no way I would ever buy a timeshare. (Here's a new tactic for you -- my Fairfield saleswoman, when she found out I worked for a Christian ministry, suddenly told me that she TOO was a minister...! Then she told me that, "No wonder God sent you to MY
table!")

However, a friend of mine did get pulled in to a Westgate timeshare. He is a pastor and speaks limited English so I am trying to help him. He has paid in for 2 years but presently cannot afford anymore to make his monthly payments. Now they are constantly calling him, harrassing him and threatening him with a lawsuit.

My question is: if you cannot afford to pay your monthly installments, isn't a timeshare like a mortgage or a car loan -- ie, if you stop paying don't you just forfeit the property (like they would repossess a house or a car)? It isn't like a credit card where you have incurred debt and have to repay it -- in this case you HAVE been making payments (in this case he has already paid a few thousand dollars into it), so how can they threaten to sue you? If you can enlighten me on this I would really appreciate it.
