Gran Turismo 2 to be Playstation Launch Game! - KingBoxer 12/31/98 Polyphony Digital has just started developing a new edition of the now infamous PS hit Gran Turismo, using a 'more advanced hardware'. Since Polyphony is under Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., it's safe to assume that Gran Turismo 2 is being made for the Playstation 2 as they've just received their own PS2 development kit from Sony. The game will utilize many of the PS2's graphical features which would make this future hit a great looking game over any racer. It seems that SCEI wants to have the PS2 to start very hot on it's launch as they're considering GT2 as part of the system's launch games. This is a case of history repeating itself as the Playstation had a hot launch in Japan in 1994 with Namco's Ridge Racer as it's first hit game. Because of GT's success on the PS, it's just right to have GT2 as a launch game and this would most likely be Sony's major weapon against other hot games of opposing consoles. Though this is good news for future PS2 buyers, this is bad news on the part of current PS owners who want to have GT2 on their console. GT2 has just started development a few days ago, but it's for the PS2 and Sony badly needs a hot game for the system's launch. Expect a major announcement on this one.
