Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Play MIDI-Zelda 2 Intro

The second game in the Zelda series was released upon us in December 1988. It was a new era of... Hold on a second!!! This is the only Zelda game without 'The Legend of Zelda' in the title!! It's the only one without the classic Zelda theme!! It's the only one with no boomerang!! It's side scrolling?! You gain experience and get spells?! Hmm...

But, amazingly, this game fits in with the series, and does feel like a Zelda game! You see, in order to wake the sleeping princess Zelda (Zelda #3), who was put to sleep by a power hungry wizard in 407 AW (After War), Link (Link #3) has to search the land for the Triforce of Courage. This was hidden by a king long ago, and to recover it, one pure of heart, strong, brave, and willing to risk his life for Hyrule would be destined to find it. Link is the one. And so you embark on this grand journey... But Ganon's followers have some tricks up their sleeves. To revive their beloved master, they need to pour the blood of his killer on his ashes. Link is going adventuring now, they need to take him out.

This is a grand and challenging game, and is one of the best side scrollers ever, although it had many overhead elements, and RPG like elements. Although side scrolling, the epic feel, puzzle solving, and exploring elements are left intact! The monsters are powerful, some take like 3 minutes to beat, and the soundtrack is a MAJOR plus. 6 huge palaces to explore, plus a grand climax palace, lots of towns, monsters, great story... wow! A great game. Truly.
