General advice

Make as many friends as you can in the game, not just in your guild, but with other races as well. Having friends will, in the long run, serve you as much as having good equipment.
Join a Guild as soon as you reach level 2. Being a member of a guild is not only a great help when starting out but can be very rewarding when you grow strong and in turn get to help other new members.
Never attack a monster another person was fighting first. This is considered the worst kind of bad manners. Should you ever do this by accident always apologize to the player then move on to find another monster. If you enter a room where someone is fighting several monsters it is OK to ask if they would like help. But, always ask first before joining a fight in progress.
Keep a spare set of equipment in a locker in case of emergencies. You never know when tragedy will strike or you will irritate the wrong person and having a set of back-up equipment will get you back out hunting that much faster.
Keep your characters autonomous (separate). Should one character fall into disfavor with a guild or individual, you can always play another until the trouble is past. This cannot be done if everyone knows character X in Guild A is played by the same person as character Y in guild B.
Good equipment is better than items that are so great you can't afford to keep them repaired. If you have an item that is to expensive for you to maintain "locker" it for now rather than spending half your time trying to find money to keep it in good shape.
If your Guild has a specific set of rules (e.g. Cult of the Flesh) either follow the rules or suicide the character. Save yourself the time hunting to get your character stronger and your guild mates the aggravation of having to finally hunt you down and punish you.
Commands in the game only use the first few letters: pummel banshee and pum ban are the same command.
Macros: Use them, use them for everything. I have macros for travel, combat, healing, searching, checking the condition of my equipment, repairing my equipment, getting money off the ground, etc. Many of you may have noticed that the limit on the length of macros is inconveniently short. You can make macros that are about 2 1/2 times longer by editing your characters *.INI file (e.g. Praxxx.ini) in the Darkness folder rather than using the macro editor in-game. You can make a string of macros auto executing by adding the "&" symbol after each command. To illustrate these two points here is the macro I have setup for equipment repair:
(drop ham&get ham&drop shi&get shi&rem hoo&rem glo&rem boo&rem clo&rem hau&rem leg&fix ham&fix shi&fix hoo&fix glo&fix boo&fix clo&fix hau&fix leg&wear hoo&wear glo&wear boo&wear clo&wear hau&wear leg&wield ham&wield shi&)
As you can see setting this once then using only one key stroke saves me a lot of time
Should you find yourself in desperate need of money here is a trick I have used on occasion: Create a lvl 1 character with a very high wisdom (19 or 20). Then, go out and clean up the items left in areas by players who's characters are to high a level to cart the "junk" back to town and sell it. Note, it is considered very impolite to take items from another person's kill. For this reason only take equipment you find in empty rooms that is obviously not from a player being killed. This is a good place to use a macro for selling all the items. Make a macro that is a string of "sell #1&" then you just need hit one key to sell all the items.
Set macros to change your combat status quickly. I do most of my hunting in combat normal (75% off 25% def). If I take a BIG hit from a monster I change to combat parry before healing. Also, anytime you fumble change to combat parry (You can change combat settings every 10 seconds.). That way you will have the most protection from "free" attacks while you are waiting to recover from the fumble.
