The caption reads: A 50-year old prisoner receiving 30 lashes at
Greenbank. This photograph, appearing in the Philadelphia Record,
January 20, 1930, Led to passage of a law prohibiting photographing of
whipping.
Adapted from a photo appearing in Red Hannah.
On the original image, the faintest of marks appear on the man's bared
back. As stated previously, these 20th century Delaware whippings
appear to be nothing compared to those of earlier times. The Warder,
however, does seem to be dressed for the event.
