Olympic Summer Games
Super NES * Black Pearl

Review by Jonathan Ratcliffe
8.5

Oooh. Another "push-the-button-as-fast-as-humanly-possible" track and field game. I've never been interested (or very good) at these types of games, and would only suggest it to "track and field purists."

You play against the world's finest athletes in each of the ten Olympic events. All events (excluding Archery, my personal favorite) require the player to somehow press the A and B buttons quickly and repeatedly in order to achieve a good score. It's tiring, and to state it bluntly, boring. That's just my view, however; I've talked to some very hard-core Olympic fans that love this game to death. Olympic Summer Games isn't bad, it's just not my area of interest.

The graphics aren't all that impressive. It's easy to think that you're playing a Game Boy game on the Super Game Boy, due to the game's lack of color use -- it seems as if only four colors were used! Fortunately, the animation is fairly smooth. I'm sure that a game of this magnitude could have been successfully created on the Game Boy. There isn't much there I would call 16-bit.

The tunes that play through the game have a catchy rhythm, but they're of poor sound quality. It's has a "muffled" sound. Sounds? Don't even ask -- there are none!

Considering how important the play control is, it's extremely lackluster. Being slow and awkward, it's slightly tolerable at best.

If this type of game is your "cup of tea," then I suggest you look into getting a copy. I, however, found it only marginally entertaining.
