BACKGROUND: These rats are more powerful than their relatives, Rat Funks. They are pink in colour and wear big running shoes. These wild creatures like to infest cities and ships where they spread disease. They are apparently quite a problem for Jonathan Jones in his sunken ship, but his band of pirates can't be scared away by a bunch of over-grown mice! Alley Rats are not too dangerous, but they often hang around more powerful monsters for protection, and they can infect people with their poisonous tails. In the sunken ship, they have even been known to commandeer Bullet Bill-shooting cannons to scare away their enemies, but they will often run away from a fair fight.

BATTLE PLAN:
Attack Pattern: On the map, Alley Rats like to run around staircases and sometimes you'll find them using cannons! In battle they use a combination of regular attacks and poison tail attacks.
Basic Strategies: Since they're capable of poisoning you and they're easy to beat, Alley Rats may be a good early target. On the other hand, you could wait for them to run away while fighting stronger enemies. It takes one or two timed hits to kill them. All special attacks work, but Jump and Geno Beam are the best (Terrorize is also surprisingly good).
Advanced Strategies: Since Alley Rats are so weak and often take two hits, you may want to leave them while you fight off stronger enemies (especially Gorgon, who gives out HP Max sometimes). If Mario or one of the other strong characters is powerful enough to beat Alley Rats with one timed-hit, then it may be good to have these guys target Alley Rats while other party members work on tougher enemies.
When an Alley Rat attacks, he turns around and slaps his chosen target twice with his tail. Try to press A on the second slap to block the attack. You should stick to regular attacks since they're so weak to begin with.
