Description: Janomi are a species of uncertain descent. Average height and build, as well as skin, hair, and eye coloration are also unknown. Physical maturity is reached at fifteen cycles. Average lifespan is one hundred thirty cycles. Preferred gravity is 1.0 G.
Amazing Shapeshifting Powers: Janomi are capable of taking the form of any organic creature. While this includes non-sentient animals, such forms are rarely taken as they stand out and Janomi prefer to draw as little attention as possible. The true form of the Janomi, or even if they have one, is unknown. It takes one combat round to go from one form to another. Any form they take can be held indefinately. While Janomi can recognize each other for what they are, anyone else must make a Notice roll at -10. A -1 is knocked off for each hour of active observation as discrepencies are spotted (as an example, if one has taken the form of an Obani, it might be noticed that s/he doesn't have the same degree of flexibility as a real Obani).
Cyber-incapatible: Due to their shapeshifting abilities, Janomi cannot have any cyberware installed. The only exception is the piloting neural interface, due to its quantium construction.
Is That a Spleen?: Since their anatomy is unfamiliar to other races, patching a Janomi up can be a bit tricky. Unless the person treating the Janomi is also a Janomi, all Healing rolls performed are done at -2.
Mystic Connection: Janomi have a stronger connection to the arcane than others and as a result have a starting Spirit of d6 instead of d4.
Outsider: No matter how hard they try, Janomi can't quite perfectly imitate whatever races they choose to take the form of. Not being able to copy tiny cultural mannerisms can be a bit off-putting and results in a -2 to Charisma when dealing with races other than their own or the Kulyang (with whom they've had a loose alliance for some time).
Comments: Janomi have always inspired a certain degree of mistrust. This has only gotten worse since the Otherspace War, with more superstitious types regarding them as demon spawn. The fact that they were among the last of the Independent Races to participate has not helped to dispell that image. Except with the Kulyang, they tend to keep their racial identity secret from those they associate with.
