Zerg Build Orders

*To be updated soon!* (Yes, I know it's old...)

The Story:

When it comes to pure power, Zerg are the weakest of the three SC races. Zerg players must use guile and trickery (and greater numbers) to beat other strong players. Several tactics have come up such as "Rush to mutas and you'll own the air," or "The more zerglings the merrier!" Well, although these strats work against newbies, they fail in games against more experienced players.

Common Zerg build orders:

"Standard": A Zerg player should slowly go up the tech tree and upgrade their units just like all races. This is the building order that will allow you to do so. This order will also allow you to get used to the way the Zerg work- and from this you can adapt your build order as you see fit.

1. Put first four drones to work, each on a different mineral square- begin another drone immediately.
2. When done, put the 5th drone on gathering minerals, and start a 6th when you can.
3. When done, put it to work and start your 7th.
4.When 7th is done, put to work-Do not build an 8th drone
5. As soon as 7th drone brings back its minerals, you should have 150 minerals. Tell 7th drone to build Spawning pool. (Do not build another drone)
6. As soon as you have 100 minerals build your second overlord.
7. Constantly be building drones (you should build three before your S. Pool finishes). Stop when you have 11 drones. Overlord will finish before Spawning pool.
8*. When S. Pool finishes, pump out the zerglings. Keep building them until you have 300 minerals stored up.
9. Build another hatchery and three drones and put them on minerals.
10. If you need another overlord build it (yes typically).
11. While 2nd hatchery is building, build an extractor.
12. Build three more drones.
13. Put the drones on minerals until extracter finishes...then put them on gas.
14. When you have 50 gas, build a den.
15. When den finishes, upgrade hydra speed, do not build hydras.
16. Build another overlord.
17. As soon as upgrade finishes, upgrade hydra range and evolve burrow.
18. Start pumping out the hydras!
*Leave some at home but make sure you send one to each expansion spot and burrow it there. This should prevent others from expanding because as soon as they do...your army can go over and whoop ass.

A note: Don't build too many sunken colonies (a few can help vs. zerglings and marines), but typically they are a waste of minerals and drones. Use hydras to defend, they really kick ass. Don't rely on colonies alone.
