Differances from Final Fantasy VII
- Guardian Forces replace summons.
- There is no more materia. Magic ect is controlled by the junction system instead.
- There is a new command draw, which lets you take magic, Guardian Forces and abilities from your opponents.
- In FF8 the companions in your party will stay on the screen and follow you around instead of disapearing when they are not needed as in FF7.
- It has a new plot and cast as has all FF games so far. Only the chocobos and Cid remain.
- There is a new world for you to explore.
- Instead of treasure chests from FF7 there are now draw point where you can draw magic and get items.
- The characters now gain a small amount of points when they excape from a battles.
- Attack patterns and the abilities of enemies will change thoughout the game.
- The FMV is even better than FF7.
- They have dumped the catoon styled characters and now have more detailed and realistic characters.
- There are a variety of new vehicles you can use.
- There are no limit breaks. The characters with low HP (hit points) instead are sometimes offered a limit break- style attack. Unlike the limit attacks in FF7 the special attacks in FF8 may require player participation. This may require you to press a button at a certain time or as in Zells special attack a beat em up attack sequence.
