Eric and Kevin's China Adventure

August 10, 2001

Okay, here’s how today went. First we woke up, ate breakfast, etc. Then we went to the Shanghai museum where we spent like 3 hours looking at stuff such as Tibetan artifacts, Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, Jade, Porcelain, etc.

One side comment is that Eric is on a “mission” (what we call Objective B) where he’s commited to taking pictures of hot girls he finds. The only problem is that he has to take the pictures without being sketchy and he can’t control what they do (i.e. where they look)…thankfully…there’s a thing called digital zoom =P.

Anyways, after we left the museum, we ate lunch at this nice airport. It’s funny cause Eric and I have learned that at like recreation spots and restaurants in nice hotels, there’s always someone waiting there who escorts you out of the elevator. However, it seems more like they’re pressuring you and bombarding you with questions. Like last night, I decided to check out the recreation area on the 6th floor and the girl that was waiting there immediately asked me what I was there for and when I said I was just looking she just escorted me back to the elevator and waited there until the door closed…freaky.

Okay, so after lunch we went to this Chinatown-like place (except we’re already in China…). The funny memory that I need to take from this experience is that Eric and I found the Duracell bunny!!!

Afterwards, we went to the airport to take a flight to Changsha. When we got to Changsha, it was onto another bus that took us to dinner. Changsha (capital of Hunan province) has its advantages over Shanghai. It’s much less crowded, the roads are nicely paved and 8-lanes wide! The place where we ate dinner was amazing. We got our own private room with…Ka La OK (Karaoke)!!! Well, we didn’t do any singing because it was late by the time we finished eating, but it was still cool just to see a Karaoke bar next to our dinner table. Speaking of the dinner table, it was amazing. It had like golden place settings (golden spoon, plate, bowl, etc.) with porcelain stuff on top. It was all arranged very nicely.

From this dinner experience and the bus rides, Eric and I have come to learn that adults can get extremely hyper. When we were on the big bus in Shanghai (now we have a small bus in Changsha), every once in a while there was this loud uproar of laughter coming from our parents and then it would go on and on and on. What’s worse is that after dinner, they were all drunk and the laughing was even more frequent (they started making like sexual jokes too…scary).

Well, that brings us to entering the hotel (Dolton Hotel Changsha). The lobby is really nice. It’s gigantic and there’s this huge chandelier fixture. Our room this time is on the 29th floor (2921). It’s just as nice as the one in Shanghai (5-star hotel again) except this time there’re no robes so I can’t feel special…sniff. Okay, I’m out. I need to find an Internet café here so I can IM people…sigh.

More of Eric's comments:

Objective B was assigned by Terry Li, so he is responsible for any trouble I run into. Ie: hot girls trying to beat me up so If I come back with medical expenses…you’re paying for da bill (O yeah on august 12 sketchyness has finally been coined term for any unspeakbles. IE: hot, cute, girls, or objective B)

O yeah, Terry you’re missing out on so much, there are so many good looking Asian escort people in Chinese wear short skirts here to help you with anything, they sound cool too. They are seriously trying to help though; I’m pretty sure… The way people sell stuff and haggle here is interesting too. There are so many people here, so many jobs, and so many people who need to survive.

O, I think we went to a museum too one day and tried honing the sketchy skillz. I got crappy picture from the 5th floor down to the main lobby. Digital zoom… Kevin said it looked like something you would expect to see from a sniper scope.

Chinatown in China. I’m walking down and see so much good sketchyness. Then like 4 girls holding hands together with dyed hair walk by and I should have taken a picture. It was like 4 __________________ types but then when they turned around it was like whoa Asian girls.

They have nice tour busses, 40 seats and ten people to it in em and we had it all to ourselves! We went to Changsha and the roads are paved soo smoothly and it’s so much better than America. The place where we ate had gold goldwear?

I’ve always known how adults are when they get too comfortable and say anything they want while trying to be funny. It’s annoying, especially if they decide to move onto children topics. So far, we are safe.
