Here are the steps you must take to raise a gold chocobo. You need this chocobo if you want to get the "Knight of the Round" Materia located on an island in the far North West. This island is not indicated on the map, and it consists of forest, so the highwind cannot land there.

Step 1: Catch a good walking Male chocobo and a great running female chocobo located on the tracks near the town of Mideel.

Step 2: Mate these two chocobos using a "Carob Nut" which you steal off of a monster you can fight just south of the Chocobo Sage's house, on the grassy area.

Step 3: After mating these two, you should get a "Mountain Chocobo", which is a grrenish color. If not, keep resetting the game and trying again until you get one.

Step 4: Mate these two chocobos again (you will have to let them recover first) until you get a "River Chocobo", which is a blue color. NOTE: You may get the River Chocobo before the mountain one. This is OK. Keep breeding until you get one of each, a MALE AND A FEMALE.

Step 5: Go to the Gold Saucer and race these two chocobos (Mountain and River) until they are up to class A. You must come in first for three of the long races to move up a rank.

Step 6: Once both are at class A, and are recovered, mate the "Mountain Chocobo"(Green) and the "RiverChocobo"(Blue), using a "Carob Nut" until you get a "River-Mountain Chocobo", which is Black in color. Male or Female, doesn't matter.

Step 7: Go tho the "Icicle Area" and catch a GREAT DASHING chocobo, being the opposite gender of your "River-Mountain Chocobo".

Step 8: Race the "River-Mountain Cocobo" and the GREAT DASHING chocobo until they are Class A.

Step 9: Once these two are class A, and fully recovered, Mate them using a "Zieo Nut". These nuts are located in the North West, on an island that looks like a turtle. You must steal it from a monster there.

Once mated properly, you should end up with a GOLD CHOCOBO!! If not, try mating them again....you don't always get one on the first try. If you still don't get one, maybe you mated the wrong two chocobos somewhere....so look back.

TIP:

When racing your chocobos, it is a good idea to first feed each one between 5 and 10 "Silkis Greens" that you can buy from the Chocobo Sage. If you do, your chocobos will behave, and will win the races with no trouble.
