*THREE YEARS LATER*
"Damnit Jay, will you stop it? I need to finish cleaning here!" Marleny squealed, laughing, to her boyfriend. They were cleaning her house and he was trying on her clothes in the laundry room. She was cracking up, until he pulled up a man's jersey.
"What's this?" He asked, a hint of jealousy rising in his voice.
"Oh, that's just my brother's old jersey, he left it here a while ago." She lied. She forgot she still had that. She grabbed it from him and threw it over her shoulder. They continued to clean the room out and stopped for a bit. Jason decided to go out and grab them some lunch. He gave her a sweet little kiss and then left.
Marleny watched him leave. She walked over to the table and opened a drawer. Taking out a ring, she sighed. 'What a waste of two years' She thought to herself. She took the ring and jersey and put them in a small box and grabbed a sheet of paper. She wrote something down, and walked back over to her table again. Opening up the drawer, she took all the letters he had written her that she saved, and gathered them. Apologies, excuses, those letters meant nothing to her. She bundled them together and put them in the box with her letter to him resting on top. She left Jay a note saying she'll be back later. She went out to the post office and had it mailed out first class. Giving it not a second thought, she drove back home to Jason, smiling the whole way.
*SOMEWHERE NEARBY*
The next day.
"Justin shut the fuck up, I'm trying to sleep here goddamnit!" Joey shouted through the wall to his younger friend. Joey dropped back into bed, not being able to fall back asleep. He got up and walked over to a picture on his dresser. It was of him and a girl. He still loved her, but she never responded to any of his letters. He was trying to move on, but it was so hard. He decided he was gonna try and talk to her again. He was almost sure she still lived in her old house. Just as he was reaching for the phone, Justin bounded into the room.
"Yo, dude, you gots mail." He dropped the package and left the room. Joey looked down at it, and recognized the return address. He felt his heart tug as he quickly opened it. He was first greeted by a bundle of envelopes. He looked more closely and noticed they were from him, to her. He looked in again and pulled out a jersey. It was his superman jersey she used to prance around their- HER house in that he left. As he held it up, something fell out of the shirt. He looked at the shining thing on the floor. He picked it up and felt a part of his heart crumble. It was the promise ring he gave to her.. It symbolized that he would love her forever. He looked into the box again and found a letter. He opened it and read it, and what was left of his heart died.
Joey,
I've moved on, and hopefully so have you.
Don't say you're sorry. I
don't want to hear it.
