CHAPTER 7

It had been about 15 mins since everyone had left for their days out. Cassie and Lance just sat in silence as they watched tv. Cassie has started to doze off a bit. She caught herself and thought, ‘Alright, I cant do that anymore. I don't want to mess up my time alone with Lance." and sat up so she wouldn't do that again. She was trying to think of what to say to Lance to start a conversation, but she just couldn't think of anything.

"Hey I am going to run down the hall to get a drink from the vending machine. Want anything? It’s on me." Lance asked as he got up from the couch and searched his pockets for change for the machine.

"Oh sure," Cassie said and then thought about what she wanted, "um. . . how about a Sprite or 7-up."

"Alright, Sprite or 7-up! I’ll be back a in a few." Lance then walked over to the table near the door and grabbed the key to the room and he was gone.

After a few mins of channel surfing, the phone rang. Cassie got up and walked over and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Hello, is Lance there?" The man on the other end asked.

"I’m sorry he stepped out for a second."

"Alright, is any of the other members, Maura or Abigail around?" He asked again.

"I’m sorry, they are all out for the day."

"Alright, well if you could can you let Lance know that Johnny Wright, myself, called? Its nothing majorly important so he doesn't have to call back right away. I am mainly looking for either Maura or Abigail."

"Alright, I will let him know, and also I do know Maura and Abby will be back tonight at 7:30 if you would like to phone back then to talk to them then."

"Oh really, all right, I will call back later tonight. Thanks."

"No problem."

"Good bye."

"Bye." Cassie said and then hung up the phone and walked back over to the couch and continued to channel surf. A few more minutes passed and Lance was still not back. She was starting to wonder what was taking him so long.

*****

Lance walked down the hall to the vending machine on their floor. As he got to it he saw an "OUT OF ORDER" sign on the machine. He turned around to go back the other way where the elevator was so he could go downstairs to the lobby and use that one there. Although he knew there were fans down there a few autographs wouldn't hurt. Once down stairs he saw no fans so he went right over to the vending machine and got Cassie a 7-up. As he stood there trying to figure out what to get himself someone taped him on the shoulder. Lance quickly turned around thinking he would be face to face with fans, but instead he saw a familiar face. "Kathy?"

"Hey Lance." Kathy said. Kathy was a good friend of Abby and the guys. They had met when they were in New York last. They had kept in touch. Not as good as they wanted though since Kathy was busy with work as well as the guys. Abby talked to her the most. Yet failed to get a hold of her when she had found out she was going to NY to see the guys.

"Kathy!! Hi!! How are you?" Lance said while he quickly wrapped his arms around her.

Once he let go Kathy answered, "I’m good. How about you and the other guys? It’s been awhile."

"Oh they are good. They are out right now actually." Lance said. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh just some work." Kathy said. She was an accountant at Price Waterhouse Copper. "Just doing some auditing."

"Oh yeh that's cool." Lance said.

"So why are the others out and not yourself?" Kathy asked.

"Oh well Abby is in town with some friend and we all made separate plans. I wasent really in the mood to go shopping." Lance explained.

"Abby is here?" Kathy was shocked to find out.

"Oh yeh she is, didn't she call ya when she found out?" Lance asked knowing Abby was good friends with Kathy.

"She may have. I have been really busy lately so I have missed a lot of calls." Kathy said, "But I got to run. I got to get back to the office. Tell everyone I say hi, okay?"

Lance leaned in for one last hug before they went their ways, and then added, "Hey why don't you come by tonight for dinner? I don't think the guys or girls would mind. We are just getting take out."

"All right I will see if I can. I am pretty much done all the paper work so I think I can come by. What time?"

"Say about come by at 7. We planned to all be back by 7:30 so 7 should be a good time."

"Alright, 7 it is. And if I cant make it I will call okay? You under your own name?"

"Yep, well I am under James Bass." Lance said.

"Alright see you later!" Kathy said and then turned to head out back to her office.

Lance watched Kathy as she walked away. Once she was out of his sight he turned around and continued to decide what to get. He ended up getting a coke. I wasent really in the mood for anything but he wanted to get something. He grabbed his coke and made his way back to the elevator. Being interrupted by only a few fans he signed their pictures and answered question as to where they other guys where. They girls thanks him and gave him notes for himself and the other guys as usual and he got into the elevator and went back up to the room.

*****

Cassie looked at the time in her watch and noticed Lance was gone for almost 20mins. "Man, what could be taking him so long?" She asked herself out loud. Once she lost herself in the show she was watching the door opened and Lance walked in.

"I am so sorry for taking so long," Lance started, "but the machine on this floor was not working so I went down to the lobby and the fans kept me longer then I thought."

"That's cool. No need to be sorry. It’s not your fault you are wanted by just everyone in the world." Cassie joked.

"Here." Lance said as he handed Cassie her 7-up and then sat on the couch beside her.

"Thanks. Oh um, Johnny called." Cassie said remembering the call from earlier.

"Oh really? Dose he want me to call back or anything? Did he say it was important?"

"Well he first asked for you, then asked for Abby or Maura or any of the other guys. I told him they were out for the day but would be back later tonight, so he said he would call back then." Cassie recalled.

"Hum, I guess it wasent that important either that or it could wait a bit longer." Lance said and then added while opening his coke, "What are you watching?"

"I really don't know I have just been channel surfing while I was waiting. " Cassie said and the handed him the remote, "Here you watch what you want. I can seem to find anything I want to watch."

After a few minutes of channel surfing he couldn't find anything he wanted to watch so he just turned to MTV. He didn't really want to watch MTV either but it gave background noise. "So how did you and Abby meet? She never told me." Lance asked in a lame attempt of starting a conversation.

"Oh well we both go to USF and we ran into each other one day. We started talking. We had some free time so we went off campus for the afternoon. We spent all day talking and we had a lot in common. So that's pretty much it." Cassie explained in as little detail as she could.

"That's cool. So when did you find out she knew us? Obviously she didn't tell you right away, right?"

"Oh no, I didn't know for awhile. I found out when one day you were all back in Orlando and I phoned Abby, but I think either Chris or Justin answered. I actually thought I had the wrong number cause I didn't even know she lived with someone." Cassie explained.

"Really, she never even told you that?"

"Nope, or at least I don't ever remember her saying anything like that. She was always talking about Chris but nothing along the line of them living together. And even then I didn't know it was Chris, Chris, ya know?"

"Yeh she is pretty good a saying stuff with out giving details at all." Lance said as they continued to talk for most of the day. They didn't have a lot to talk about but they had managed to fill the day with conversation from the smallest thing to absolutely nothing.

By the end of the day Lance had realized he spent most of the time drifting off into a daze while Cassie would talk a storm up. She didn't really catch him with anything they talked about and he was also preoccupied with other thoughts all day. They didn't click as well and he thought. Although Cassie thought they did.
