Gran Turisimo 2 Vital Stats
When the 1st GT came out, it was hailed as the best racer for any system because of its realism, and a whoppin 166+ cars. Now with GT2 on the horizen more loaded than ever, its set to strenthen its title as King of Racers. The second time around Sony is gearing up gamers to be stunned for a completely new game. Although players may not be as surprised as the first time around, Gran Turismo 2's Producer Kazunori Yamauchi has serious plans to achieve even more realism and to juice the PlayStation for all it's worth this time around. "Gran Turismo uses about 75% of the PlayStation's maximum performance, so that means there's about 25% extra," Yamauchi explained. "We're aiming to get the cars even more realistic. So the visual quality is going to be enhanced, but it's unlikely to have the same impact as Gran Turismo had " Launching this summer, the highly anticipated follow-up to Gran Turismo looks to offer the same complexity of courses and challenges, but the amount of cars has almost tripled. With 400 car models from world-class manufacturers worldwide, this staggering number blows away any other game by miles. In addition to the onslaught of cars from which to choose, the courses have also nearly doubled: More than 20 courses (the original game offered 11 tracks) will appear in Gran Turismo 2. Perhaps the most striking alteration to Gran Turismo 2 is the improvement in the kinds of racing being offered. Now gamers have the pure driving pleasure of selecting from GT, rally, production, and sportscar racing. With this massive addition are numerous improvements to handling, driving response, and more, and speeds. "I never expected Gran Turismo to do this well," said Yamauchi, lead developer and executive vice president, Polyphony Digital. "This title has been incredibly popular worldwide, and my goal is to make the sequel an even better product." Finally, players have the ability to tweak and alter his or her car. Every element of the engine can be modified, from gear ratios, torque, suspension, brake balance, to axle width, steering, allow size, and tire tread size. And for what it's worth, there is at least one car that makes use of 4 wheel drive in GT2. This is definitely the game to watch for this summer. We'll have more screen shots later on.
