The Legend of Zelda: Gaiden

The Legend of Zelda: Gaiden is the newest installment from one of the best series Nintendo has seen. Zelda: Gaiden is the sequel to The Ocarina of Time, which is probably the best game on the N64 to date. Zelda: Gaiden looks to up the Ocarina of Time with bigger dungeons, more varied environments, and better graphics utilizing the 4MB ram expansion.

Even though Zelda: Gaiden is the sequel to The Ocarina of Time, the story does not really continue where The Ocarina of Time left off. Rather Gaiden is set in sort of a parallel world to Hyrule. After returning home from his battle with Ganon in the first N64 game, Link runs into a masked stranger who steals Epona and then takes the horse through a doorway into a warped dimension. Link follows and finds himself trapped in a strange but sort of familiar world. Landscapes and faces looked the same but one thing was clearly different. In the sky loomed a gigantic moon, that was slowly making its way down upon the world.

Link sets out to save the world from destruction and make his way back into his own world. As Link explores this new world, the moon gets ever closer. Even as Link waits, the moon still falls, and this is one of the biggest changes from The Ocarina of Time. No, not the moon falling, although i guess it is a change, but the fact that in Zelda: Gaiden time passes even as you stand there doing nothing. This creates a sense of urgency at all times. As your exploring the dungeons or just talking to people in a town, the moon still creeps closer.

Zelda: Gaiden runs off a slightly modified version of the Ocarina of Time engine, so many of the essential elements such as gameplay remains the same. The game has virtually the same controls and battle system as the Ocarina of Time. The graphics have been improved and the game will require the 4MB ram expansion to run to handle the bigger dungeons, more detailed towns, and more enemies.

Zelda: Gaiden also features masks like The Ocarina in Time but with one major difference, when Link now puts a mask on, he is transformed into that creature. By putting on the Goron Mask, Link is transformed into a Goron and then gains new powers from the Gorons like the ability to roll around and break boulders. Zelda: Gaiden will contain many of these kinds of masks that will help him to access different areas or complete tasks in the game.

Zelda: Gaiden looks to expand on all of what the Ocarina of Time had to offer. Gaiden is set to give almost the same gameplay and depth as The Ocarina of Time along with all new worlds to explore, more detailed environments, new characters, more enemies, and a great new storyline. With that said, how can the game not be good?
