Stars! Resources
05-12-99
This page is dedicated to providing you ,the players, with resources to help you improve your playing. I will be adding items here constantly. I hope this will eventually become an area where players can come to find all the resources necessary. If you want to see something else here let me know or send it to me. I would be glad to add it. Remember the Nebula is your site.
PLAYER ASSISTANCE (Getting Started)
Pegasus Mail--This is by far the most popular email client used by Stars! players. This link will take you to their home page. This software is FREE which is the best part!!!
Sender v2.1--This Pegasus add on, by Paul Owen, is perfect for hosts. Once set up it will create the outgoing messages with files at the touch of a button.
Wincode--In order to send the data files over the Internet they need to be changed from binary data to ASCII text. This program does it very easily. You only need this program if your email software does not encode files.
Stars! Excel Spreadsheet--This Excel spreadsheet is by SBPosey@aol.com. It provides calculations on Jammers, Warp Speeds, Calculates Mineral Packet Information, and most importantly calculates ALTERNATE REALITY resources based on Tech levels and population. There is even a graph. This information is very useful for the dedicated Stars! player. (Version 2.01)
Stars! Calculator--This calculates anything and everything you could imagine. It was written by Mathias Dellaert. Once you download it, and use it, be sure to thank Mathias for the excellent program! If you intend to be a serious Stars! player this is a must have! (Version 2.5)
Stars! Notebook--This is a very nice utility. It uses .map files and .pla files to create a log of your opponents' planets. It also allows you to enter text for keeping important email, information on treaties etc. If you have a previous version be sure to delete the notebook.ini file BEFORE you install this version. If you don't it will cause problems with the software. This was written by Andrei Romanov. (Version 1.8)
ARTICLES ABOUT RACES AND THEIR DESIGN
Jack of all Trades (JOAT)--This article by Scott Phelps is long but very interesting. If you have ever thought about playing a JOAT race you must read this first.
Alternate Reality (AR)--This race is my personal favorite. This article was posted by Woo-Hyeon Cheong in June of 1996 to the Stars! Digest. It is very informative. If you are thinking of playing this race this is a must read.
COMPUTER PLAYERS (AI)
AI HyperExpanders--Having trouble dealing with AI controlled HE races? This article gives a few ideas on how to handle them!
What races are the Computer Players?--This gives a listing of the race setups for the computer.
MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION
What is the Mystery Trader? What does The Mystery Trader Give Away?--This lists all the mystery trader goodies, and answers any questions you could ask about the most sought after entity in Stars!.
