Journal of Kyldynar

By Kevin Taylor

A.k.a. Mephisto 14, Morpheus 14

This is the Journal of Kyldynar, son of Isabel the Justifier, Guilded Mage of Green and Gray disciplines. This is written from the date of his Teacher’s disappearance, but is somewhat incomplete due to time on the road and various other complications. Read on to learn of the unknown battle for the Known World…

Note-

Before reading this, you have to realize that the calendar for my Campaign is a different one from ours in RL.

There are two moons, Sel’del’Lania and Hel’del’Midrina. The months in order are Highfrost, Midi’del’serdon, Od-mont, Springcountry, Dragon-mont, Ra-mont, Su’del’hylt, Aco-mont, Su’del’Concrain, Lastsun, Frostfall and Bloodsnow-mont. There are 28 days to a month. The days of the week are Firstday, Matronday, Patronday, Almsday, Hearthday, Feastday and Saintsday. That said, let’s get it on!

Ra-mont 11th-

Today I came back to the Tower after spending a month in Mistriver, and the place was overrun by Goblins! I snuck back to town before they saw me to get help. Thank Isis that Gwenn’s favorite game when we were younger was hide and go seek!

Walking back to Mistriver, I wondered how Niles and I were going to get in and free Dylar. Then the Gods answered my problem… The Frost Dragon from the Wasteland flew overhead, trying to shake off two Elves, a Warrior, and a woman who were hanging on! I couldn’t believe it! He finally shook them off, and they landed closer to the village than I.

Finally, I made it back to the village, only to find that Niles had tossed the Woman Alexis into the jail for causing a disturbance (more likely cause he didn’t know what to do with people falling from the sky…) and the Warrior (her guardian) was negotiating for her release. The Elves had gone to the Inn.

I started asking what had happened when the jail blew up! The woman, it turned out, was a Blue Guildsman, and had uses a fire ward in the privy to get out… innovative, if smelly and destructive. Finally, I gathered them all, and we left for the tower…

It turns out, Alexis was going to Dylar for further instruction… I had not heard of it, but it seemed reasonable. My 14 years was almost done. The Warrior, Issac, was her guardian, due to her belonging to a noble house (Velidra I think…) and the Elves, Tylen’del and Jareth, had been hired on ship to help protect her. The Dragon, as he’d been doing for the last month, sunk their ship…

We made camp a half mile from the tower, and went to sleep before the fight that was sure to come the next day…

Ra-mont 12th-

I can’t believe it! Alexis and Issac skipped out on us! The two Elves and I have to go it alone. Wait… Who are those people, no…? Wolfen…

The Wolfen are Jayalon the Blue and Galoth of Hocknar. They have been sent from Algor Port to find out why Dylar hasn’t been heard from in a month… and to ask for help with the Dragon. Well, if they want to know…

Looks like I’m getting my help.

Ra-mont 13th-

There was a Fiend in Dylar’s study! We defeated it by a little skill and a lot of luck (Dylar had left an active Summon Angels circle in his study.) only to find out that some old enemy of Dylar’s was working on taking over Timro again… Some Gandez the Nightbringer… Never heard of him.

Turns out Jayalon works for the Empire, and so I got to go back to Algor port with them… The silly Diabolist wants to go through the cursed woods to save time…

But were gonna spend some time here looking for more clues… Good. I can look for some power circles…

Ra-mont 20th-

Returning to the village today, we found it being attacked by Wicked_knife Goblins led by Alexis and Issac! Niles was saved by Jayalon as Tylen’del and Jareth took on the deserters…

Seems they were working for Gandez… Looking for me. Interesting.

Ra-mont 23rd-

I lost my horse crossing North River today because it got ate (along with everyone else’s) by a Worm of Taut.  Damn state employees! Well, at least there’s a house coming up. Get a bath maybe, or at least a decent meal. This should have been a 3 hour trip, now it's gonna take a day…

Ra-mont 24th-

The house was the residence of a witch who tried to kill us. I have the luck of Anibus these days it seems…

Ra-mont 25th-

Well, we made it to Algor Port. Haven’t been here since I was 13 with my foster father… I miss Thomm. Ah well, maybe I’ll find out more about what’s going on…

Tylen’del took off to look for a different job… Said we might see him around.

Ra-mont 26th-

After a night to recover from the trip, we gained audience with Lord Thayatus. He gave us letters from Dylar about what Gandez is planning. Seems he found the pommel gem for Castlerake and plans on assembling it to take over Timro! Now why the interest in stopping me? I’m nothing if this guy has Deevils working for him…

Ra-mont 27th-

Three Fiends attacked the Port today, looking for me! They were barely defeated, but now I’m really worried. I’m going to continue working with these Wolfen, if for nothing else than protection…

Su’del’Hylt 1st-

After a few days to consider options, we have decided to look for other parts to Castlerake to stop Gandez from assembling it. Legend says that the blade might be somewhere near the eastern tip of the Algor Mountain Range. We set out tomorrow.

Su’del’Hylt 3rd-

Left my village today on the way to the mountains… Finally found the adventure Thomm always said I’d find… I’m not really excited by this, but is has to be done. If Dylar can keep Gandez busy in Timro, I can work to distract him up here.

My traveling companions are strange. The Elf, Jareth, claims to be in it "only for the money" but I can tell Gandez worries him… The priest Galoth is apparently just bored with temple life (he’s old, may think this is his last chance to see the world…) while Jayalon, while good nature, just doesn’t know how to deal with her newfound authority…

Wonder how I can use this to my advantage?

Su’del’Hylt 6th-

We did it! We found the blade! It was largely luck, but we found it!

Maybe I should back up a bit…

Couple days back, we ran into a Farie circle, and a Night-Elf joined us to molest Jareth. Then we got directed to a Troll Alchemist! I didn’t belief it! His name (I had to fight not to laugh…) is Baggypants the Red. He’s also a vegetarian… odd.

Turned out that Baggypants knew my real mother. Her name was Isabel the Justifier. She was a famous Palladin from the Western Empire who worked mostly in the Timro area. She dies shortly after I was born, and various people who knew her kept stuff for me if I ever needed them. He had kept her sword. It’s a finely crafted Alchemetal Longsword with a hilt styled to look like an Ankh. It glows a light blue and has the ability of Lightning’s Bite… Wonder what else I’ll learn as this goes on… Seems she helped Dylar with the first fight against Gandez.  Wonder why Dylar never mentioned her? Summoned a Gurgolye before moving on…

So we continued on towards the mountains, and Jareth found an odd pond that while stagnant, had nothing at all in it… It was "too clean" he said. Further investigation showed it to be water elemental left guarding an underground complex. Pondering how to get in, we saw fire in the distance…

A nearby Gold Ring Goblin Village had been attacked by more Wicked Knives led by another Fiend! While we fought the goblins, the Gurgolye made short work of the Fiend. Gotta love incentive by racial hatred… Getting back to our horses (left with the Night-Elf) found that a recently hatched Ice Dragon had eaten them. It seemed sorry, and offered to help us out for a few days…

Things keep getting stranger… But he froze the Elemental and moved it so we could get in. In the maze we found the Sword, that was to be guarded by Koblods, but they wiped themselves out by a misguided summoning of a Hades-Maggot. We barely defeated the Maggot ourselves, but managed to outsmart it and take the blade to Castlerake…

Su’del’hylt 7th-

We wandered back to show Baggypants the Blade, then met a new friend as we moved on… A southern Palladin called Matsirt. Interesting man, at least… Something odd that I can’t place my finger on…

Still letting the Night-elf continue her joke… It is funny they all think she’s a contrary…

The Dragon is going to fly us to Shadowfall tomorrow. Jayalon is gonna trap the maze with numerous wards to slow up Gandez’s minions. Seems a little underhanded to me, but this is war…

Su’del’Hylt 8th-

The Dragon dropped us off a few miles from Shadowfall; close to an inn called, well, The Inn at the End of the Road. Small, but a nice place. Sent the Gurgolye home. Shortly after Jayalon and Matsirt overheard 4 people planning to assassinate Emperor Vrr’Shan. Great, this never ends. It appears Gandez hired them… Planning time.

Su’del’Hylt 9th-

We rode to Shadowfall and tried to warn the Emperor but ended up drawing trouble instead. It seems that possessors of Castlerake parts have an unintentional mind link at times… He knew we were stopping his plans and sent Deevils to attack the Shadow Palace! It was a long battle, but we finally won.

Tonight at least, I’m treated as a Lord, and I get to stay in the Palace. Maybe this hero stuff is not all bad. Now we wait and see if the assassins try tomorrow anyway…

Su’del’Hylt 10th-

They did. They failed. The Gurgolye came back willingly, seemed he like killing Fiends. The Captain of the guard turned out to be a plant of Gandez’s. He's dead now. Learned more about my mother, and what she did. Received her cloak and her amulet. I think I’m done with summoning…

Everyone else got some stuff too. Matsirt received a Holy Weapon. Jayalon got some magic stationary; Jareth received a Rune Longbow. Never knew they made bows... Galoth got a huge Lightbringer Ax. Seems we're better prepared now...

Su’del’Hylt 11th-

A thief named Maximillian was forced to join our party today cause he knows my real first name.

We received a letter of Marquee today. We are servants of the state now, but we can do a lot. Could be fun.  Jayalon hooked up with an old flame living in town. That should give us a few days…

Went through the Arch last night. I see why so few people use that to change their color. It felt like it looked into my mind and my soul, took out the "evil" parts of summoning, and remade them into the basics of Wizardry… I feel… violated. Now I am Green, with a geas to never learn more of summoning…

I only remember the protection circles and three summoning, and the circles of healing and knowledge…

Maybe I’ll teach Jayalon.

Su’del’Hylt 12th-

Set out for Algor Port today to stop the Dragon raids before heading to Bizantium to get the next sword piece. The journal may get sketchy, as I forgot to buy ink before we left…

Su’del’Hylt 15th-

Made it to Mistriver. Gonna stay the night. Maybe get a little to drink. Should let Gwenn know how I’ve been…

The Gurgoyle took of with the thief on with their own little idea to help. No time to chase them anyway…

The Night-elf told us what Matsirt is, a half dead, a near victim of the vampire curse… Now I understand his dedication to killing demons.

Su’del’Hylt 16th-

I woke up with a horrid hangover, as did Jayalon. Hers must have been worse, as she had never been hung over before. I felt sorry for her, but couldn’t help myself and cast a thunderclap spell just to watch her jump…

So we chased her angry ass all the way to Algor Port. If it’s not Jareth pissing her off it’s me.

Ran into Tylen’del in the Port again. He found out what was going on, decided to join us on our dragon hunt to raise our chances.

The Dragon’s lair was this huge Ice dome made by freezing and bending trees in the area he wanted… Surrounded by a wasteland filled with animated dead. My mother’s amulet came in handy to get there. Then there was the Dragon itself. It was young, but still terrifying… What it told us was worse.

The Dragon had started attacking the port to keep a promise. Two promises actually. One to my mother that he would keep me safe. The other to my Father that he would not let me interfere. That meant Gandez was my father.

I freaked out and unwilling astral projected…

There were numerous things I saw… My mother, I think, Isis, a flurry of images. All very confusing. I only remember one thing… someone said "You can’t protect him forever, I will give him his last tool, the others will take care of the rest" Then I came to.

They had slain the Dragon. I was lying on the ground in a heap, my sword hovering in the air. Matsirt said I had been "engulfed in a pillar of Holy Light." I reached out for my sword with my mind, and it came to me. It felt different. Matsirt asked to see it, looked at it, then handed it back. "How’s it feel to have a Holy Sword of your own?"

"Like I’m a pawn in some game," was my response.

The Gods want me to kill my own father.
