Starcraft 64 Low-down
A couple of weeks ago at E3, Starcraft 64 was premeired. One spokesman of Nintendo of America have claimed that Starcraft 64 would be much better than its PC version. The problem is, no one was playing the game on its booth. After seeing that the Mission Briefing screen has no speech, I knew the game would not be as successful as its PC version. During gameplay, you will not be able to use the taskbar, the taskbar that gives you options on what to build, and commands to assign to a marine/firebat/wraith/etc. Strategy games converted from the PC to a game console usually fails in the market, so lets hope Starcraft 64 will be improved before its release. Starcraft, is also available for PC and it rocks! You can download the PC demo here, which is about 28 megs. Check back soon to this page for further annoucements.
Rare's latest sci-fi adventure, Jet Force Gemini, will hit stores this October 15th. The game WILL HAVE 120 STAGES, 2 HOURS OF CG MOVIES, and invaluable Multiplayer Modes. Multiplayer Modes will contain the old fashioned Deathmatch, as of from Goldeneye, and will also have a co-ops (cooperative mode) mode, so 2 players can beat the game simultaneously. Another multiplayer mode is similar to Virtual Cop (for the Sega Saturn & Genesis), you aim and shoot enemies, and if you shoot a hero, you lose a health point. Check back soon to this page for more information.

Phew, Final Fantasy 8 isn't even released in North America yet (just a few more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and Square Soft has Final Fantasy 9 in development for the PlayStation. But, Square Soft is predicted to have $40 million budget for a PlayStation 2 Final Fantasy game. No futher details have been released as of this point. Check back soon to this page for more information.

Phew, after seeing the Donkey Kong 64 preview video, I gotta say WOW!!. The game will require the 4MB expansion pack, and it is believed that the expansion pack will be released with the game. With huge gigantic worlds, extraordinary 3D graphics, and high-quality music & sound effects, Donkey Kong 64 will easily become the game of the year!!! The bosses are huge, like the ones in Ocarina of Time, and there are over 200 objectives, and over 100 moves for each character. In each level, there is only one area which only a certain character can access, so you will have to use different characters to unlock secrets, unlock hidden worlds & places, and more. I will post screenshots of DK64 in coming days, so check back soon to this page for more information.

Super Mario RPG 2 will be named as Super Mario Adventure. The game itself is not a direct sequel to the popular Super Mario RPG for the Super NES, but the game features high-quality comic style graphics. 2D animated sprites will be used on third-dimensional backgrounds with intense real-time battles. You can now use Mario to jump on enemies without using a command to knock them out. The game is slated to have tons of mini-games, more puzzles, and more things that will take up the N64's capabilities. Check back soon to this page for more information.

Nintendo have confirmed TWO new Zelda games in the works, first off, Zelda Gaiden, a sequel to Zelda 64. We do not know whether this game will be a lock-on cartridge, or a game pak that will be released on its own. But we do know that Nintendo will try to push to the limits of the Nintendo 64 with the sequel of Zelda 64, namely Zelda Gaiden. The sequel will contain additional mini-games, such as horse racing, but this time, it takes place out on Hyrule Field (no, not the race against the marathon runner), and will contain new dungeons, secrets, surprises, monsters, magic, and items. Zelda Gaiden is predicted to be a 32MB game, if it is a lock-on cartridge (like sonic and knucles for the sega genesis), then Zelda 64 can be expanded to 64MB, but we have no information concerning the lock-on cartridge yet. Zelda Gaiden will have more of those lush, gorgeous, CG scenes, and will have more special effects than Zelda 64. On the other hand, if you don't own Zelda 64 or a Nintendo 64, you can expect to see a new Zelda game coming to the gameboy. Due to the overwhelming success of Link's Awakening for the gameboy back then, the upcoming gameboy version of Zelda will have a new layout, so the graphics will be a little different from "A link to the past", and "Link's Awakening". There will probably be some short 56 color movie scenes, but that has not been confirmed yet. Check back soon to this page for more information.

Square Soft is going Hollywood! If you have played Final Fantasy 7 or any other of Square's games, then you will notice their valuable skill in producing lush CG graphics. Now, Square Soft will make Final Fantasy: The Movie, a photorealistic film. The movie will not be based on any Final Fantasy game, but will have a unique story, something like an alien conspiracy. The setting will take place in the future, with ultra-realistic animation and stunning special effects. By the looks of this screen shot, you will know how the graphics for this movie will be. Check out the screen shot below.

As Rare's skills in graphics, music, and programming are improved, so are the games. Rare's games have always been a masterpiece, in someway, and Donkey Kong 64 is the big one. It will ship with the 4MB expansion pak. Anyways, Donkey Kong 64 will feature a multiplayer death-match, in which players will be able to challenge each other by racing through mine fields and huge areas in mine carts, race boats, throwing barrels at each other in a huge arena, and shooting each other out of a cannon. Donkey Kong 64 will have huge areas in which to explore, lots of items, and lots of fun. Check back soon to this page for Donkey Kong 64 Screen Shots.
After months of intense rumors, here's the news. The tital saids it all, Chrono Trigger 2 is in development. The main character is Serge, and this time, there are more time eras that you can travel to. I will have more information on Chrono Trigger 2 (or Chrono Cross) in a few days. Check back soon to this page for more information.

If you think the title of this article was a joke, think again. Nintendo's upcoming system, Project Dolphin, will not be able to play DVD movies and Music Soundtracks from Audio CDs. What this means is, the system will not be able to play any commercial movies or audio CDs (soundtracks). It will only be able to play its own games. The system, being manufactured by Art-X, will be affordable, let's say, around $200, while the PlayStation 2 will cost around $410. The PlayStation 2 will have a few advantages over Dolphin, meaning, that it will have Backwards Compatibility with Sony's original system, the PlayStation. Dolphin will feature a rich graphics card, video acceleration, for those beatifully rendered CG Scenes and FMVs, and of course, sharp and crisp graphics. Nintendo might release a unit for Dolphin that will play DVD movies and Audio CDs, but that has not been confirmed. Check back soon to this page for more information.

By now, most of you should know about Resident Evil 2 coming to the Nintendo 64. In fact, the N64 version of Resident Evil 2 will be much better, compared to the PlayStation version. Resident Evil 2 for the Nintendo 64 will be the first game to use the brand new K/OS engine. After seeing impressive improvements from the graphics and movies, Resident Evil 2 will have the longest FMV (Full Motion Video) that will ever appear on the Nintendo 64. The 1.2GB (Gigabyte) megahit will be converted into a 512Mb (Megabit) cartridge, which will reduce loading time. I will post new screen shots of Resident Evil 2 by July 4, 1999. Check back soon to this page on July 4th for new Resident Evil 2 (N64) screen shots!

Square Soft have confirmed Legend of Mana, but like every game they sell on the PlayStation, they always have a demo their upcoming games. Chrono Cross, the demo to be packed with Legend of Mana "once its sold" (well duh!), is rumored to be the sequel to Chrono Trigger 2. If Chrono Cross is really the sequel to Chrono Trigger 2, then Square Soft might have plans to release Chrono Cross on the day of Lavos (its December Something 1999, I think). Let's hope Chrono Cross is really Chrono Trigger 2. Check back soon to this page for more information.

Perhaps the biggest shooting game to come this October, Quake II (Jet Force Gemini has been pushed back to September, Perfect Dark, around Christmas '99). For fans of the original Quake, you will surprised on what Activision and Raster did to improve the game. The entire game is different from the PC version of Quake II, so if you have played Quake II for the PC, you won't recognize any of the stages in Quake II for the N64. The game takes place aboard an alien spaceship. There will be more than enough stages for the average Quake II fan. The stages will be more eerie, and it will bring back the fright and fear to Quake fans. Additional weapons of mass destruction have been added to Quake II for the N64, and there is a multiplayer mode, which supports 4 players simultaneously (duh!). Like Goldeneye (which have set the standards of a good first-person shooting game), Quake II will use mission objectives. Each level of difficulty (easy, novice, nightmare, etc.) will have different mission objectives and different weapons. The harder the difficulty, the more secrets the stage will have have. Each monster (or alien) will attack differently, which will add to the excitement and fear of Quake. Check back soon to this page for more information, and perhaps, Quake II media. I will post some Quake II screen shots on or before July 4th, 1999. Happy hunting!

After Nintendo has decided to switch from the 32MB (or should I say 64MB) cartridge format to the 5.7GB DVD for their upcoming creation, Project Dolphin (or known as N200X), Square Soft begins to see some interest in Nintendo's next console. Square Soft will evaluate Project Dolphin's hardware to see if it meets their satisfaction. If the evaluation goes well, Square Soft will close their exclusive deal on developing for the PlayStation 2. Since the N64 cartridge didn't have enough disk space to meet Square Soft's satisfaction for their next generation RPG, Square Soft went to develop for the PlayStation. Since that Project Dolphin will use the 5.7GB DVD, and a much more sophisticated game engine than the PlayStation 2, the chances of Square developing for Nintendo again is ... (what do you think). Nintendo will do everything in their power to get back Square Soft.

Lufia III: Ruin Chasers will be published for Game Boy Color before it actually arrives on the PlayStation (Lufia? On Gameboy Color? Sound good!). Lufia III: Ruin Chasers will take place 300 years after the original Lufia. When you compare the original Lufia: Fortress of Doom to Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, you will find out that the original Lufia (Fortress of Doom), is much better than Lufia II. The gameplay is smooth, and not every trip ends up in a brain numming tower/puzzle/cave/or whatever. Lets just hope Lufia III: Ruin Chasers will preserve the basic gameplay that the original Lufia had, and not that of Lufia II. We will post some Lufia media in the coming days. Check back soon to this page for more information.

The upcoming game, "Shen Mue", for the Dreamcast will be nothing but stunning. If compared to Zelda 64, you will find that graphics are more realistic, and the gameplay is more challenging. The basic role in Shen Mue is freedom. The game doesn't force you to go anywhere at anytime, it is all up to you. When you actually play the game, you will get lost in Shen Mue's huge world. Exploring cities, large fields, mountains, lakes, underground regions, and much more is just the beginning. Again, this game is similar to Zelda, but you have complete freedom to do whatever task in the game that you want to do first. We will post up Shen Mue Media in the coming weeks. Check back soon to this page for more information.

As most of you should know, Zelda 64 will have a sequel, either in a lock-on cartridge or as a 64DD extention. Ura-Zelda will be known as Zelda: Gaiden, and it will have new worlds and territory to explore, new mini-games, more weapons and items, and more mixed up scenarios. There will be new enemies, with improved AI (artificial intelligence), and you can expect more of those beatifully rendered CG scenes. The game is rumored to be a 32MB lock-on cartridge (wow! another 32MB). If this rumor is true, then Zelda 64 would be a 64MB game WITH THE LOCK-ON CART. Otherwise, it will remain at 32. Check back soon to this page for more information.
June 15, 1999
If you have beaten Zelda 64 and have thought the adventure is over already, guess again. The rumored Zelda 64DD Add-on is true, and this is causing a lot of confusion. Nintendo have already reported that a Zelda 64 add-on would be arriving, but not for the 64DD. While the 64DD is not even released in North America yet, Japan will have the add-on. North Americans will probably get the lock-on cartridge, and so might Japan. Who would spend $200 for a lock-on system when Nintendo is preparing Project Dolphin (aka N200X) for the late 2000 release. While we don't have any details about the add-on, sources say that the game will appear on Spaceworld, a Nintendo-only show in Tokyo. Check back soon to this page for more information.
Chrono Trigger 2
June 12, 1999
With the year 1999, the Y2K (Why 2 K?) bug is still being fixed for more computer systems. In 1999, Lavos took over the world in Chrono Trigger. In deed, Chrono Trigger 2 WILL be released, for the PlayStation 2. This game will use up all available technology on the system to make this sequel more stunning than its predecessor. If you don't know, Chrono Trigger is the most stunning RPG on the Super NES. You can travel back in time, change time, and use special techniques. The sequel will have real-time CG movies/FMVs (Full Motion Video), more techniques, double techniques, and triple techniques, filling up 650MB on a single disc. Rumors say that it will be on 2 CDs, but we'll find out later. There is no proposed release date for Chrono Trigger 2 yet, but we will find out. Check back soon to this page for more information.

Rare's Banjo-Kazooie was perhaps the biggest action platformer to ever hit the Nintendo 64 (and possibly the Video Game Industry). If you have beaten Banjo-Kazooie with all 100 Jiggies, you should have noticed the Ending Scene where Mumbo shows you the pictures of how to raise Sharkfood Island, get the Ice Key in Wozza's Cave, and how to open the locked pyramid in Gobi's Valley. There is one way in which you can get those, but it can be found in Banjo-Tooie, the sequel to Banjo Kazooie. There is also another way to obtain the Ice Key without waiting for Banjo-Tooie, but it will spoil the anticipation of waiting for Banjo-Tooie, and it is done with the Gameshark. I don't know the exact code, but I will try to get the code and post it here. Banjo Tooie will run on an enhanced version of the Banjo Kazooie game engine. The enhanced Banjo Kazooie engine will feature more impressive visuals, possibly multiplayer capability and multiplayer death match (similar to the upcoming Conker 64), improved graphics, and maybe even the capability to run on the 8MB expansion set. Rare is keeping their plans for Banjo Tooie secret, so check back soon to this page for more information.

Remember on 1996 that Square Soft confirmed Final Fantasy 7 for the PlayStation? That
made millions of gamerz mad. Nintendo had lost a huge developer. Tha reason was because
Square Soft needed more disk space and system power than the Super NES. The Nintendo 64
is more powerful than the PlayStation (well, except for Polygon Rendering), but the
cartridges were too expensive to manufacture and it can only store 32MB of data (the
cartridge disk space have been expanded to 64MB sometime late 1998). Now that Nintendo's
next console has more power, higher-capacity Disks (DVD - 5.7GB - Gigabytes - or can hold
up to 17GB maximum), and costs less to manufacture the DVD disks, there is no reason that
Square shouldn't develop for Nintendo. With games like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy,
Seiken Densetsu (Secret of Mana), and Romancing Saga (Saga Frontier) making huge sales,
Square Soft is the number 1 RPG developer out there. Expect further details covering Square Re-Developing games for Nintendo in the future. Check back soon to this page for more information.

YES! It's true! Final Fantasy 9, is confirmed and will be under heavy development. As with rumors about Final Fantasy 9 being the last Final Fantasy game, it looks like it wouldn't. With all the fame and fortune that Square Soft had made with the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy 9 couldn't possibly be the last Final Fantasy game on Earth. A source at Square Soft had confirmed that Final Fantasy 9 will be under heavy development. With Final Fantasy 8 still not released in North America yet, Square already have plans for Final Fantasy 9, and the prediction for the release of this game is set to early next year. Why would Square Soft start development on Final Fantasy 9 when they haven't even released Final Fantasy 8 in North America yet? Final Fantasy 8 will be released at Fall '99, and it will sell millions. Final Fantasy 9, on the other hand, will not be for the PlayStation 2. It will be released for the ______ system (check back June 9th to find out, oh what the heck, its being released for the PlayStation (1), not the PlayStation 2). Check back soon for more information on Final Fantasy 9.

Note: This article is based on the Nintendo 64 preview of Starcraft, not the PC version (the PC version rules). This is just the preview, but things can change in a few weeks.
"There goes another one," sighed Juno as one more dot on the splintered and blackened on-screen galaxy map flickered and turned red. Vela turned her back in disgust. "How much longer are they going to wait?" she demanded angrily, stomping back across the ravaged ship's bridge to her co-pilot's seat. Lupus barked his agreement. "Beats me," Juno muttered, shaking his head. "At this rate Mizar's going to be knocking on their door before they've made a decision." The twins were fast losing count of the number of urgent reports they'd made to the ruling Federation since the seeds of this whole affair were sown, first warning of the growing threat, then demanding that a stronger force be sent in to deal with Mizar as the scope of his intentions became clear, and finally pleading for backup as the hostilities expanded to include their own fleet. But still the Federation refused to commit. Just another petty tyrant, they kept saying. Don't worry about it. Stay out of his way, let him have a few of those minor stars just over the borders of his territory, and he'll be satisfied... But of course that wasn't happening. Savage attacks on the JFG patrol ships had left the squadron crippled, with only a single ship - that of Juno, Vela and Lupus - escaping by the skin of its teeth. Less than a week ago, the entire Force was intact: now, it was space debris. And with their hyperdrive unit damaged beyond repair, there was no way for these three survivors to escape the field and report first-hand back to base. They were trapped in an warzone expanding by the day. And during the systematic destruction of the JFG fleet, another long-standing treaty had been breached: Mizar had invaded Goldwood, homeworld of the peace-loving Tribals, and taken almost the entire colony into slavery. The prospect was a particularly sour one to Juno and his fellow fighters - the Tribals were valued allies, and it was a source of guilt and shame to Jet Force that they hadn't been there to help in their hour of need. Vela rose suddenly from her seat, breaking Juno's reverie, and he knew what was coming next. "We have to do it," she announced. "We have to do it now." And even as she spoke, Juno realised that he'd also made his own, long overdue decision. He nodded, expression grim. Who were they trying to fool? Their other options had long since expired - this was the only path left open to them, one that would permanently make or break their chances of a return to Earth. "I know," he agreed solemnly. "We're a sitting target, and we're not going to last another day if we-" Juno found himself cut off in mid-sentence as without warning, the floor beneath them shuddered from the force of a furious blast down in the bowels of the ship - which also gave the emergency sirens a jolt into belated action. "Hey! What now?" yelled Vela, wheeling to face the main monitor as it threw up an abrupt, horrifying image of chittering Drone raiders pouring from a Stealth Ship docked at the devastated cargo bay doors. The three of them stared in grim horror. "Well, this more or less settles it," muttered Juno, setting his jaw. "You two get going, and I'll join you down on Goldwood when I've secured the ship." "Not a chance!" spluttered Vela. "What if you -" But Juno was already steering her out into the corridor and the ever-closer echoes of the Drones' scuttling footfalls. "Vela, there's no time!" he hissed. "If Mizar takes the ship, we're all trapped and the Tribals lose the only chance they have. Now take Lupus and get out of here! I'll be with you soon enough," he promised, placing his hands fondly on her shoulders before spinning on his heel and diving headlong into the mouth of danger, pistol cocked and glowing in the gloom. So that's that, Vela thought to herself, watching him go. Well. I guess he's right, as usual. She took a deep breath, nodded once, pulled her familiar JFG firearm from its holster then turned and sprinted alongside Lupus in the direction of the teleport bay - and the death-or-glory crusade that lay beyond. |
