Are you a fighting fan looking for more than
another beat em' till their power bar is gone game? Well, this is the
game for you. Bushido Blade is a very innovative fighting game from
the powerhouse development company Squaresoft. Set in the far east,
this game combines free-roaming fighting arenas and one-hit
kills.
The graphics get the job done. The character
animations are well done and the characters move smoothly. The
backgrounds are imaginative, but to keep the frame rate fast,
textures dissapear from walls and turn transparent, it is kind of
dumb looking at first but you get used to it. The battles occur in
such imaginative areas as a bamboo thicket and a moat. One thing I
can praise about this game's graphics are the character animations.
The characters move quite smoothly and realisticaly.
The sound is really cool. The music is everything
you would expect from a Squaresoft game, with the occasional rock
riffs mixed in with the oriental music. The sound is clear and adds
to the realism. The clashing katanas sound sweet. Bird chirps and
rain fall also add to the levels you are fighting in.
The contol is fast and responsive. The only
problem with the controls is that there are many different button
layouts to memorize. There is a layout for standing, crouching, and
laying down, this is a thinking man's fighter. There are no combos
or special moves as well, but that's the point.
All and all, this game will most appeal to the RPG
audience looking for a deep fighter, and the fighting fans looking
for something a little different. Unless you are totally opposed to a
more strategic fighting game, you will love Bushido Blade is an
innovative fighting game that will surely be loved by gamers
everywhere.
