Those of you who have been jealous of
your friends N64 because of Mario 64, your savior has arrived. The
best way to think of Croc is to think Mario 64 for the PlayStation.
Croc takes most of it's ideas from the past greats of the genre. Croc
looks almost exactly like Mario 64, he collects diamonds which work
like Sonic's rings, Croc even wears a backpack like Laura Croft in
Tomb Raider. Croc's graphics are top notch. The visuals are smooth
and colorful, it is obvious that the development team spent a lot of
time perfecting them. The only problem with Croc's graphics is that
textures are used over and over again in each world, making the
levels seem very similar. The sound is the lowest point of the game
though. The music is cool and fits the levels well, but the sound
effects are way to cute. Croc yells "KER-SPLAT" and "KER-POW" every
time he does his tail attack, and the other game effects are equally
cute. The control faulters too. I played the game with a digital
controller and the control was okay, but you really need an analog
controller to really enjoy this game. Although I read in a
magazine's review of Croc that when you press down on the analog
stick he takes a step forward, then turns around, which can make you
fall off of cliffs. Overall this game is fun, if you can stomach the
extremely cute elements of Croc. If you are looking for a good,
clean game to play, Croc is right up your alley.
