I assure you that the first
ever Castlevania game on the PlayStation will not dissapoint even the
biggest Castlevania fan. Believe it or not, this Castlevania stays
true with it's 2D origins, but it may be the last 2D Castlevania if
the N64 has anything to do with it. Castlevania: Symphony of the
Night's graphics are spectacular. The animation is top notch and the
level of detail is astouning. This game really shows that 2D games
are still alive and kicking. The sound, in my opinion, is the most
impressive element of Symphony of the Night. The incredibly crisp and
clear music ranges from orchestrated music to awsome guitar riffs.
The control is tight and responsive, but unfortunately the
frustrating jumping from falling platforms is still intact. The
element that makes this game different from past 2D games is the
variety of enemies in one area. It used to be that there were tons
of the same type of enemy in one particular level and when you
defeated that level you would move on to a level with another type of
enemy. In Symphony of the Night there are many different kinds of
enemies within a short distance of each other, and with each you must
use a specific tactic on them. The bosses are often towering beasts
of great power, and it isn't a cakewalk to beat them either. Overall
this game is a must by for Castlevania fans and people who enjoy
gothic type games, although true next-generation gamers may find it a
little too "old school" for their tastes.
