From the 19th Hole

December 2 1998

Round 13

Rain thundered down, lightning flashed and the skies bellowed with anger but still the intrepid twosome pressed on to Chamberlain Park. Richard quavered momentarily, yelling across the roaring wind, (of the airconditioning), "It looks like it's getting a bit heavier. Are you sure we should play?". Noting the rain on the windshield of the car was arriving at the rate of one or two specks every second, Aaron snapped back to reality and replied "yes we need a..."

Fanatics' Day Out!!

Sorry about the double exclamation marks but I thought the emphasis was needed. I decided not to use three as that is surely a sign of an unstable mind.
As I type this my hair, rain jacket and trousers are slowly drying out, (guess which is slung over the back of my chair =). The storm clouds I noted after yesterday's round have decided to stay a while and place an appreciable amount of precipitation upon the exposed surfaces of Auckland, Northland and much of the Waikato. Since Chamberlain Park is in Auckland we got a little bit wet. This is offset by the fact that we are now blooded fanatics playing golf in all weather. We are the hard men. We are probably will have runny noses and colds tomorrow but it was a fun day.
Chamberlain Park was noticably quieter. No queing for the first tee. No one wanting to join our pair. In fact the person before us had teed off an hour before we arrived. It was a surprisingly nice round despite the rain.

Points about our games.
My driving was what let me down a little. Particularly my irons off the fairway for the first couple of holes. My putting was a great deal better and my approach shots were better then usual.

Richard felt that he played poorly. There were a few holes where luck wasn't quite with him, (the 7th landing on a reverse slope, thus not being able to lift the ball, catching another slope and finally a bunker, but the bunker shot was a great one). His score however was two strokes better than yesterday. Richard felt that he was taking the bad holes really badly and not appreciating how well he was doing overall. Richard was within a stroke of me up untill the 5th and even at the 6th.
